at the moment, adult blogging is a more productive industry than the tgp market. it's no secret that search engine traffic is the money maker for adult right now, and blogs have an obvious upper hand when it comes to search engines. especially when worked together in a niched network. new blogs on their own, don't turn out huge profit quickly, but a large network of smaller blogs trapping and sharing traffic can do pretty well. tgp surfers aren't the paying customers you want to see eating your bandwidth, all they want is to show up and click their way through all the free porn they can. there's alternative ways to make money off this traffic, but not on a PPS or revshare program. also i suggest getting away from promoting general porn, and work within a niche for the best results. i also know of a service which will handwrite 20 adult blog posts a month for your site, in return for evry 10th being their own. this system has worked BETTER than rss feeds have for me, and i don't think it's unfair to give out 2 posts a month in exchange for fresh and unique text content.

The service is on temporary hold until they can relocate their offices. The deal goes like this, they write 20 posts for your site in a month. monday through friday you get a unique handwritten/seo optimized post, each second friday or tenth post, is there's. they embed their own affiliate codes in that one post every two weeks. that is the only cost. thomas byers is heading up the project, and has a great deal of experience in the field. the quality of the product is great, and in my opinion 2 out of 20 posts is a fantastic deal. you can reach him personally for more information over at netpond.
the only stipulation is that your site is indexed in google, and has a small amount of traffic. There's no reason that your site shouldn't qualify within the first week of being online. The system I have for slapping together a new adult blog and getting it online, usually has you organically indexed with 48 hours and you should be easily pulling enough traffic to qualify within a short time so long as you get on top of the hardlink exchanges quickly. you might have to write the first dozen or so post on your own, but that's not a real big deal. if it's not something you're interested in doing, i can write you up your first dozen posts at a small additional fee while putting the page up.
your other option is of course the rss feeds, but unless you're already working with a pile of traffic or have a large advertising budget, this isn't going to be your best bet for productivity...
revenue is derived from affiliate sales, you have an option between PPS (usually $35-$50 per sale) or revshare w/ rebills (40-60%) for most affiliate programs. choosing the right program and sites to push, and carefully working your sales text is essential to making money with adult. if you're pushing an oversaturated site with proven low conversion rates you're not going to make anything. however picking the right site at the right time, with quality unsaturated content and directing the right traffic towards it, can pay off handsomely. there's other smaller income streams you can create, but they are a sidenote for the most part to your sales referrals.
as for how much money can a $250 expect to make, it depends on a whole lot of other factors too, i'm not gong to profess to design a site that will make the sale for you. if you're looking to start and build a small blog from scratch, or to run rss feeds, i would not recommend dropping $250 on a quality theme to you. there's plenty of freebies that will suffice. design just isn't the place to put your money if this is your gameplan.
however, if you have a topnotch type-in domain with a lot of traffic already, or intend on investing a sum of money into traffic, it could be advisable to spend a little extra on getting a blog designed that people will remember. you need to gauge the value of the investment for what you consider the potential earning power of the site in question. in some cases a $250 facelift could raise your income by hundreds if not thousands of dollars in the long run, in others you might just be flushing your money down the drain...
