    PC or MAC for designing

I am going to be buying a new computer. Does anyone have any insight as to which is better suited for web design functions, a PC or a MAC?

Honestly, these days it really doesn't matter. With the right software, both platforms are capable of extraordinary output.

I'd base your decision on features for the $$, and trust that either way you go it will be more than adequate for what you are doing.

Re: PC or MAC for designing

Any proffessional creative design/video computer work is always done on Mac.

And Mac is much easier to use.

And never crashes (or very seldomly, unlike P.C. which comes with crashing as a feature)

And viruses are usually not written for Mac.

    And...

    Remember that.

    That's not really true anymore

    You could certainly argue that

    Ok lets talk about this:

    1. Not webdesign, but video. Webdesign is probably made more on windows based systems.

    2. If you are going to work with design, I'm guessing you already know either Windows XP or a Mac OS. Hell, my grandmother can use windows.

    3. if you know how to take care of your computer using Windows XP, it won't crash. I have not gotten one single blue screen for years of using XP (got it a few times when I used beta versions), and I play multiplayer games, webdesign, email, surf, download illegal stuff etc.

    4. Agree, but just get a decent anti-virus program. I only use a firewall, since I know what to download and not to. No need for antivirus here.

In defense of MS Windows I must say under Windows 95 and 98 I had ongoing annoying crashes but since moving to Windows XP about 3 or 4 yrs ago when it first came out NEVER had even 1 crash. There is no way the Operating System could be any better or more stable, IMO.

I agree 100% since we are not talking about Hosting anything etc.

For terminal use I love XP

Re: PC or MAC for designing

Virtually most graphic arts, advertising and publishing creative professionals use Mac.

Same for Hollywood (video & film editing).

And as for ease of use, do you know how are applications (programs) uninstalled in Mac? You just click on icon and drag it to trash. Voila - uninstalled.

I suppose strictly for web design, PC would be better, at least because of the widest user base.

    So go with Vaio.

Re: PC or MAC for designing

    Get a Mac!

You will spend more money, that is a given, but...

You won't have to worry about the CONSTANT problems with the Microsoft OS such as Spyware, Viruses, Trojan Horses, Web based exploits and on and on and on. I often wonder how much time is wasted by Windows users with these ongoing issues.

Buy a new Powermac G5 and if you can afford it, the new LCD 30in monitor.

I used to be a PC tech and after repairing and troubleshooting these things for years, I can tell you unequivocally that you will have far less hassle with a Mac!

The web design tools that you need are available on both platforms.

You can spend more money now and get a Mac or you can spend less, get a PC and then worry about someone gaining access to your valuable data.

I haven't used a mac since highschool. I don't plan on getting one anytime soon. Although I probably should for web development testing.

Have both - use both - but tend to find my 15" Mac PowerBook the most useful tool I have. With a wireless network at home and at our beach place, I tend to work in many different places - office (ha), kitchen, porch, back yard, deck, couch...

I usually only use the PC to check my output on the web. Most of the world views the Web on a PC monitor, so I always check my pages there.

    THAT's the point.
Profoundly influenced by #Bauhaus, @Nameslave unrepentantly embraces #Minimalism in his #multimedia portfolio. His early works include an experimental adaptation of Chekhov’s Cherry Orchard inspired at least partly by Robert Fripp. His totally irrelevant M.Ed. dissertation examines Organizational Culture and Change Management.

I get so sick of Mac users smacking windows/PC users upside the head. Its all personal preference. I have never had a problem with my PC....so there!
