    Unhappy Advice Wanted

    Hi,

I'm looking for some advice/pointers/suggestions/offer of services even.

I run an ecommerce site selling inkjet cartridges, media, papers and other consumables (Calibre Supplies). Our site gets good reviews from customers for its ease of navigation and use, but we really stuggle with ranking(appearing high up) in the search engines for search terms related to our products. I feel the site is nice and clean, not optimised for the SE's, but designed to talk naturally about our products with some keywords included, and focused on making it easy for visitors.

I'd like to address the problems we are having to increase our positions and improve pagerank.

    Ideas anyone?

    Cheers,

    M.

    some advices:
    1)Start an exchange link campaign
2)Put the Doctype on all the pages not only on the home
3)reorganise the directory of products (ex:/paper/epson/epson_paper_catalogue.htm), I noticed that file names are ok, just move them into a more "targeted" directory
4)try to make your code as more W3C compliant as you can

    let me know

Here is what my software says about your meta tags

    Meta tags analysis.
Title: This tag contains too many characters.
This tag contains 82 characters. This is too many for what we would consider a 'robot friendly' web page. The maximum number of characters we recommend for this tag is 80.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Description: This tag contains too many characters.
This tag contains 337 characters. This is too many for what we would consider a 'robot friendly' web page. The maximum number of characters we recommend for this tag is 200.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Description relevancy to page content is fair.
The Description relevancy to page content is 52%.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Keywords: This tag contains too many keywords.
This tag contains 48 keywords. This is too many for what we would consider a 'robot friendly' web page. The maximum number of keywords we recommend for this tag is 20.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Keyword relevancy to page content is poor.
The keywords relevancy to page content is 42%.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Robots: Found no robots meta tag.
This tag is not really required but helps spiders to index the web page.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Author: Found no author meta tag.
This tag is not really required but helps for your (company) name recognizing.

I would reduce your description tag to fewer but more relevent words.
Drop the - ands, if's and buts.

If you PM me, I'll go over a few things on your site you could alter to improve your natural search engine rankings. Nice site, btw. Very easy to navigate.

Using text links, instead of image links will have a little impact. You may want to apply that rule especially for the left navigation panel.
