I have a (music) fan site utilizing the wordpress software. The site is consistently growing in traffic, averaging 8k (I believe hits) daily throughout the month of March. (sorry if that's nothing major, it's the best I've personally done yet)
The problem is, as popular as this site is becoming, even considered the official site for the artist by his management --- it doesn't move up in the google search results. I've even personally compiled a downloadable .rar file that was re-posted on a few other blogs a little over a month ago, and one is on the 1st page as the 8th result!
What can I do to change my luck? I'd actually feel the site is validated by being noticed by google.
Thanks in advance for any help or insight you guys can provide.

oh no doc com, you've gone to the dark side
i've been experimenting with wordpress too after doing most of my development in joomla. one thing i really miss is being able to change up the sidebar depending on category.
am i correct in assuming you have to display the same sidebar on every category in wordpress?
never had any issues with joomla seo, but will give it to wordpress in being much lighter and leaner of an install. actually contemplating adding a wordpress blog to some of my joomla sites - just have to take the time to translate the templates.
everything everyone else said, but also make sure you are constantly trying to build links from other sites to your site. request links from popular sites in your category, or even set up a 'prop' blog on blogger or blogspot that links to your main site.
