it all has to do with the editor really, not some fancy alogarithm or quality standards for websites

a site is either approved or isnt

...tough for the avg webmaster to understand how dmoz works and the benefits of it if you never read in-depth seo analysis or stories shared by x-editors

I've never been an editor, but I do know a few people that may still be active editors at DMOZ...
If any of you honestly believe your site should be listed, feel free to send me a PM and I'll see if there's anything I can do to help.

FYI:
1. Domains that only have parked pages on them DON'T qualify!
2. You must be the owner of the domain(s) for me to consider helping out.

This is exclusive to DNF members and will be done at my discretion

PM ONLY

Cheers!

It's another good link in your arsenal. Submit and forget about it.

Dmoz listing is not bad by any means, it will start giving benefits as the site grows older atleast by a year. Remember many websites re-use dmoz data. say if there are atleast 100 out there re-using their data(though there are 1000's doing it along with some top brand websites) thats the amount of backlinks you are going to get which means better ranking on whatever word you compete. So wait an watch to reap benefits. Though i agree getting dmoz listing is a pain.

^^ A DMOZ listing has nothing to do with conversions.

Or rather, your site as you explain in the above post, which you can't even get into DMOZ. How about you go spam somewhere else?

It certainly doesn't hurt to be in the dmoz directory but since they're in no hurry to approve submission you better going elsewhere.

Frankly there are better directories than Dmoz nowadays...

Dmoz has lots of spam and porn inside and don't forget the corruption of the editors lol

They still have a good pagerank but i think that it has been some sort of devalued or at least Dmoz is not such a powerful link as it used to be...

Thats very true I have seen many threads titles like " Dmoz is dying " " Dmoz nowhere " " Dmoz a big scam " etc etc....
Few year ago listing in Dmoz was to be considered as prestigious

DMOZ is yes a good site but has proven to be very corrupt as stated in a post DMOZ Extortion by Shoemoney a while ago.

just because dmoz is free, it makes it very difficult for them to get serious in business. "cheap things are not good and good things are not cheap".

Getting Listed in DMOZ is free and tough.

But if you get listed then it is as good as getting listed into any reputed directory.
