so i want to forward a bunch of domains to it, to give it traffic. but if i forward too many, it can hurt the page rank of MyVeryOwnLander.com.
What is the max # of domains, conservatively, that can be forwarded? This tells me how many landers I will need. I want to get all my domains off of PPC.

This is not a good way to optimize a website for free traffic.
I would recommend using a different method rather than just forwarding them.
Try setting up a "sister website" and use it to trade links with the main website. This can be using to help establish relevancy of the keyword phrases that you are optimizing for your website.

Where did you heard/see forwarding domains hurt SEO?
Can you show me where you seen it?
Never heard or seen such thing.
Well, it depends on how you plan to forward your names.
If each name that you would like to forward is a page using a meta tag to "refresh" to the main domain, the name using the meta may suffer a penalty. It just looks fishy to the bots.
If you are using something like cpanel to park your names on top of each other I've never heard of any penalty for that.
If your doing it from the registrar as an addon service, I've never heard of any trouble with that either.
