I snagged a PR8 domain name, is that good?

Obviously PR8 is pretty sweet, but I've seen conflicting reports on whether it'll last, whether it will transfer beyond the delete period (although I've got it and google PR is still 8 a couple weeks later)

It's a .CA domain, maybe it gets under the radar somehow?

At any rate, what's the best way to maximize the PR here? Should I put together some content and sell text links?

Is there any chance a linked to site would be *penalized* by doing this?

Thanks, I've been drop catching domains on and off for years but I've never paid a lot of attention to PR until I grabbed this one.

Being a .ca doesn't matter. As google notices inbound links start disappearing(as one would suspect as webmasters notice the original website is no longer there) they will either discount or remove the pr all together. The quicker you get content on there the better. In the best case scenario you may be able to maintain the pr as it is. I've grabbed pr 4 and 5 .ca's before and have been able to maintain the pr in the past.

You can sell text links... but google has cracked down on the practice. Sites buying links can be penalized if caught, and the same goes for the website selling the links - penalty being a drop in pr. If you don't care about losing the pr, and the buyer doesn't care about the possible risk, you can make a quick handsome return selling pr8 links.

Googling around on this tonight was the first I've heard about "fake" google PR, how do people "fake" that?

I'm deriving google PR directly from the google servers, I modified a perl script to query the same server the google toolbar does (toolbarqueries.google.com)

Most dropped domains with PR are fake. People can easily fake a PR8 domain using redirect to a real PR8. Also PR8 is very very rare so I would suspect it is fake.

You can use these sites to check fake PR. The first site is the most reliable. The site will tell you if your domain is redirected from a different domain in which case it is a fake pagerank.

Well as I said, I'm pulling PR directly from google, and both of these sites also return a PR of 8.

a fast dirty approach is to look for the original content on archive.org, but get some content up fast no matter what...

Search on google for the domain name if it real it will be first or the domain it was redirected to will be first if its fake. get content up a fast as you can this will help maintain backlinks. check arichive.org and try to keep relative to old content also search on google for site:domain name and try to recreate some of the old pages as they may have links too

If you forward a domain to a high pagerank url for sometime (a pagerank update period) the forwarded domain's pr is seen as the main site's pr on the google toolbar.
    check your domain with :
    www.checkpagerank.net
    www.digpagerank.com

If it is real pr you can sell the domain or you can sell links.Or you make resurrect the existing site back if you won't have copyright issues.

Just do this search in google to find out:

    info:domainyourchecking.com

If the domain has been forged/spoofed/301'd it will show up by performing this query in G. You see, the domain with the "real" PageRank will ALWAYS be the one to show up in the results.

You could also try this one:

    cache:domaintocheck.com

Same rule applies - the domain with the REAL PR will magically appear (if it is a different domain from your PR8 then it is faked).

    Pr

Stuntpop! You really had a great catch as PR 8 domains are extremely rare.

I have got few PR 2-5 domains as well. Just wondering if someone could tell me how to make use of those PR domains to lift my other websites' PR legally

There is no way that it's a real PR8 and it dropped.

I'm sure it is faked , I monitor PR drops almost every day , and I have to tell that during last 6 month I've never seen valid PR8 domain to be dropped

Look at the cache of the domain in google. If it shows a different domain its been faked!

It seems a bit too good to be true, but I would put some content on it right away to maintain the PR. Getting a couple more genuine links to the site should help to preserve a high PR.
