Question .INFO Domains - Waste Of Time?

Personally, I've noticed that .info domains take much longer to get indexed compared to .com/.net - I've done this experiment many times in the past 2 months or so, and it is always the case for me. I've also noticed that .info's are very slow to climb up the SERPS, and can easily get outranked..

Has anyone here found the same to be true? I'm starting to think that I should stop wasting time with .info's and just go for the .com/.net domains.

If anyone here's still having any luck with .info domains - care to share any tips, etc. on how to get them indexed faster? Are .info's pretty much just a waste of time when it comes to wanting to rank for terms/keywords and long term SE rankings?

I can confirm that as well. I am not registering any .info for development anymore. Generally traffic is lower 2-3 times comparing to the worse domain names with .com or .net extension.

I only have keyword.info domains or ones for copyright / brand protection. I don't think any are developed.

Yes, .info doesn't worth the serious development and promotion.
    Just my opinion.

It's funny, I posted the same opinion and received the warning from a Mod months ago. He told me that I shoudn't post something like this.

Funny, although my parking statistics aren't anything to write home about, those that are making a showing seem to be mainly infos. Why would this change with development?

    it would not

but your parking statistics does not mean that the above statements are not correct

I think people are too quick to blame .info when they don't do well in the search engines, it's the easy option. Perhaps you should be looking at how the site was built, content, promotion etc.

There's no doubt .info sites can do well, just look at spain.info and their rankings for the term "spain", which is a massively competed term.

    yes, they can
    another example is "mta" (mta.info)
but google is made by americans
    and they simply prefer .com's

i am sure, .info is a great TLDs, especially for Europe
if ccTLD is not available, .info maybe a nice alternative

    Google is biased
    that's a fact

Is it though, you say that but is it a fact or just more speculation?

I just did that and got these titles from the top 10 results returned.

Why Won't Google Let Us Filter Dot Info Domains?
    Google purging .info domains?
    Is .info Domain Good?

Notice how they are all questions, no one seems to know for sure, and that includes me. It's hardly fact unless it comes from the horse's mouth.

And if extensions are a factor in rankings, my guess is that it would be a very small part of the equation.

    HI

I have noticed .com domains do much better. then any other extensions.. unless you have the budget to drive and build backlinks to .net .org .info or .biz

    Yes .com is better

    .info

    I agree...

Personally, I have only ever brought 1 .info domain name:

    Knife.info

    http://www.sedo.com/auction/auction_...ked=&partnerid=

It's now on sale at Sedo with about 8hrs left to go; bargain at $360 (2 bidders at the moment)!!

.com is the KING and .net is the Queen - the frozen formula that will never change.

    My 2 cents.

Geo .info names perform very very well.

.COM is better , cause there is more .COM names developed and they were
ranked a few years before their competitive .info's

Again, City .info doing well. I have PR3 city .info without actual content.

    I recently had 9 clicks from 1 visitor @ $3/click on a .info so I'm glad I had that one =)

But there is no comparing .com vs .info

.info vs .biz maybe (although sexmachines*biz is my best parked name atm)

.info is also good for quick flips if your broke. You can usually sell $1 dropped names for $3-7.

Matt Cutts and other "big names" from Google, clearly stated that there is no difference between tld's.

The trouble is that .infos are so cheap that spammers would register hundreds making them low quality websites. A well developed and maintained .info website would weight as much as any other .com, .org or whatever...
