Keyword domains and SEO

I understand that keywords are great and thats what helps drive traffic.
My question is about .net .org and .us or .ca domains that are keywords.
Say if a .org has a good keyword, does google help bring that site to the top?
And what about .ca or .us (or any country code).
I understand that if im in canada I will get .ca results, and likewise for .us.
But does google make country domains (with good keywords) rank higher?

I have read this article but im still baffled. I see alot of .org keyword domains taken. Are people actually getting traffic to .org keyword sites or do they use it to divert traffic to their .coms?

Lightbulb

Domains that have keywords, and URLS with keywords, help to establish relevancy for a domain. Sites are listed at the top of search engine based on "perceived relevancy" of the website, according to the search engine.

Search engines use MANY things to establish relevancy, and all search engines use a different method establish relevancy.

Some people, including SEO Experts, buy domain names with keywords that are relevant to site they are optimizing. The domain can then be used to link to or from the domain that is being optimized. When done properly this will help to establish relevancy, and target selected keywords.

Keyword Targeting Helps to Drive Traffic by helping a website become more visible at search engine for selected keywords that are targeted.

Please let me know if this helps you, or if you have further questions, I would be happy to help you understand SEO better.

Kind Regards,

If I used a keyword .org domain to link to a .com of a different name.. would that increase relevancy to the .com

I checkout out your websites.. they're book marked for the future.

Yes, is a .org that is linked to a .com with the same name, or with the same keywords in the domain name would help to increase relevancy. (as long as it is done properly)
