Smile seo advice/help needed for developed site

I have been developing one of my many domains in my portfolio and diligently working on seo. The site had seen lots of growth and was ranking for excellent keywords. All of a sudden I have fallin from googles serps for keywords I was ranking for and even for the keywords in my domain. I do NOT practice any black hat seo or shady tactics so I don't understand why I am being penalized. Can someone shine some light on this matter....I think I may be living proof that the Google "sand box" exists. Thanks
