SEO tips on a Domain Name

I'm looking to buy a domain name for the keywords "dedicated servers".

I of course want this domain name to be easily built up to be on page one of google. Here are some questions I thought of.

    • Does the domain name need to have the keywords in it?
    • How old should the domain name be to beat out most of the people on page 2-10
    • Should I look for one with backlinks already?
    • Should the domain already have PR and content?
    • Should the domain already be listed in DMOZ for some time?
    • How much value does DMOZ add to a domain name?

[*]Does the domain name need to have the keywords in it?

it doesn't *need* to, but all else being equal a keyword domain will outrank a non-keyword domain, so it is an important factor
[*]How old should the domain name be to beat out most of the people on page 2-10

not sure if this is a deciding factor, age helps, so in general the older the better, i'd try for not anything under a year old
[*]Should I look for one with backlinks already?

it will save you time otherwise you have to build them, but this can be done. it all depends, you could hire a service to do this. you'll spend money either way, more money for an established domain w/ backlinks, or time/money to build links on your own
[*]Should the domain already have PR and content?

    helps, again same as above
[*]Should the domain already be listed in DMOZ for some time?

helplful to be listed, not sure if length of time is a factor
[*]How much value does DMOZ add to a domain name?

unsure, but it will ad to its authority

My advice is to get a domain with the keywords so that you can have some additional edge over your competitors.
