    Subdomains and SEO?

    Hello,

What is the interest of subdomains for the SEO?

Is it better to have keyword1keyword2.mywebsite.com than www.mywebsite.com/keyword1keyword2 ?

    Thanks

Subdomains are looked at as a completely different site than your main site on your main domain name. Subdomains could help being that they're their own site so you can target keywords more precisely. But then again if your subdomain site relates to your main domain you can do the same on your domain within a directory if you can relate the content. It's all about content matching.

It really depends what your focus is:

If it's Search engine traffic, I always consider the fact that search engines read Left to Right. Sub-domains can be great, but it helps to have a "popular" (decent traffic, some PR etc) site/domain that use sub-domains on. I have seen a lot of sub-domains rank really well for popular, generic terms.

even i believe , the reading of the URL is done from lft to right ..
removing all the "http://", "www", "extention"
adding space for each ".", "/" and "-"

that is the reason domain hacks and keyword filled domains are popular among SEOs !

If you want to completely separate the traffic, use a subdomain. But just understanding you will be doubling your SEO efforts.

It would surely be beneficial if you add keywords in the domain name or sub domain name. However the most important aspect is how you market the subdomain. If online marketing is done regualrly and backlinks are acquired regularly, getting good keyword ranking would not be difficult.
