For example if you have a site www.example.com and you want to place a link of Contact Us page on home page then it should be done like this:
<a href="http://www.example.com/contact.htm">Contact Us</a>
instead of doing this:
<a href="contact.htm">Contact Us</a>
Don't know if it is true or not I am trying to find this out.
Works really well Don. I have seen my alt tag words (all images, not just top banner) nicely indexed in the SEs many times. For best results the alt tag should (fit on 1 or 2 lines viewed using mouse-over), be relevant to both the page content and of course the image itself (which is the main purpose of ALT), and not involve only keyword stuffing.
True, there are many things to be done in order to get your site increase rankings. But remember the most important thing is quality. Quality content, and quality backlinks, then followed by other more things in seo.
Did not know that but it makes sense. Now I only have 10,000 links to change<a href="http://www.example.com/contact.htm">Contact Us</a>
instead of doing this:
<a href="contact.htm">Contact Us</a>

There are two parts of SEO. One is on page optimization and second is off page optimization. First of all, clear all the on page issues that Google webmaster recommends.
What is the best way to build links?

One can start with following the most basic search engine optimization strategies like article submissions, blogging and social bookmarking.
Actually, relevant links to not appear to impact. I wrote an article on it recently, studying the issue using topic modeling via Latent Dirichlet Allocation and a large number of wikipedia pages (http://www.virante.com/blog/2012/01/...relevant-link/). There appears to be no direct correlation between high ranking pages and a greater percentage of relevant linking pages.
What we do as a company is link build link build link build - but the majority of links use either the URL or brand as anchor text. The goal is to build a large natural looking link profile, and only use targeted anchor text sparingly. Think of targeted anchor text as steroids. Hit the gym first and buff up so you need as little of that juice as possible.
Many SEO strategies can be implemented online. I prefer article submissions, blogging, social bookmarking and networking, forum and community participation. The most important aspect is submitting informative content.
