Why did my page position suddenly drop, could it be ads or banners?

    Hi,
My site www.mightygrip.ca was placing very well in google, up until the last crawl.
Now it has dropped way down in the listings even though the PR has gone from 2 - 3

Previously here is how I placed in google.ca search in Canada

    2&3 wholesale batting gloves
    4 wholesale distributor golf
    5 wholesale sporting goods
    6 Wholesale golf distributor
    6 Canadian wholesale golf
    8 sporting goods Canadian
    12 buy sporting goods

Now my positions are as such

    2&3 wholesale batting gloves
    +100 wholesale distributor golf
    16 wholesale sporting goods
    +100 Wholesale golf distributor
    +100 Canadian wholesale golf
    +100 sporting goods Canadian
    +100 buy sporting goods

The only thing I have changed is, that I have placed banners and ads on my page that weren't there before.
Could this be the cause of such a dramtic drop?

If you look at googles cache of my page you will see that I had previously made the mistake of loading up alt tags with keywords (MY BAD)
It has been this way for 6 months with no problem, is it possible that that had an affect?
I have since removed much of the KW's from alt's
Please, any help or advise would be appreciated.

    Thank you
    Scott

I sould suggest working on your on page and off page factors. Get some links for off page factors, and for on page factors, optimize your pages, use better page titles, try to use your keyword(s) in Title, desctiption, keywords as well as on the page in some H tags. Should help. Just the banners should not kill your rankings.

Check with copyscape.com to see if there's anybody copying your site, ie. duplicate content.

Check in the engine to see if there's any tracker2.php pointing to your site.

Re: Why did my page position suddenly drop, could it be ads or banners?

    eCommando
I followed your advise (Kind of did it in reverse, there was no matching links in google, but your engine found a similar one)
but it is a link to me I requested from a directory.
When submitting to them, I copied and pasted my first paragraph into their description field.

    There is no redirect

Is it possible I am being penalized for this, does it think I have duplicate content?
Does duplicate content cause such problems?

What would stop unscupulous competitors from creating sites duplicating you and getting you penalized??

    Thanks
    Smokey

Duplicate content will cause google to penalize the page.
However, it has to be substantially the same. Unlikely from the link exchange.

Lots of competitors copying the whole site.
    try this:
    http://www.mightygrip.ca.1bu.com

No way to stop people from copying your site. But you can do dmca request to google.

    Yikes!
eCommando, Did you just create that, or was it something you found?

Good demo eCommando, I'd appreciate it if you took that down now.
    Thanks

    It's not me.
It's some company from China, causing a lot of sites to rank lower.

Re: Why did my page position suddenly drop, could it be ads or banners?

    Sorry eCommando
Thank you for finding that for me, I do appreciate it.
    I will report them.
    Smokey

I have tried to look up this 1bu.com/ that is duplicating my site and spoofing my address at whois, but can't get info on them.

Can anyone please help me, how can I find info on them?
I think whois isn't recognising the name because of the 1 at the begining.

    These bandits suck.
They seem to ad the word "fliter" and then a number, at the end of the page title.
If you search "fliter" not filter you will see that this 1bu.com also .net are doing this to many other sites including alexa, about.com

Please, any help would be appreciated in tracking down this scum.

    Feel free to email me.
    THanks

    Scott
