here are the terms & conds published by sedo on this pre-regging, i'll read it carefully after i get some sleep, ( .tv had posted this as Item 6 of one of his posts also but that link was for the german version) the english trans is :

https://sedo.com/member/contracts/T&C-Pre_Auction-eng.pdf

part 6 stands out in that we could be charged "admin / reg" fees imposed by the registrar,

6. Fees

There are no fees associated with the .DE Pre-Auction other than the value of Your bids....Please be advised that this excludes any administrative or registration fees set forth by the respective registrar...

so getting all your $ back if you don't get the name seems to be in there, but if you get the domain, how about paying an admin/reg fee to some unknown registrar which may be > the price of the name ?! and don't think this is far-fetched at all as a possibility...

no word as far as i can see as to being locked w/a pre-set renewal rate, that would piss me off big time if we could not transfer to somewhere else after 60 days, someone mentioned we could before on this thread, hope that's the case otherwise i agree w/the member who said there would be so many dropped .DE's in the 1st yr, also, remember this is tantamount to orig hand reggin for a name, the rules of transferring names as we know them may not apply, or may require some "approval" by some entity, this is .DE and not com, net, org & info...those ccTLD's come w/enough strings attached or you may not be able to move the domain for some time, what if it's some euro-trash registrar/reseller w/lousy security... lol, just to pick on gool old europe, there are 1,000s of those all over the world, we all know some

also, on Sedo you only get one shot at pre-reg bidding, you can't increase it i read somewhere, and knowing Sedo you most certainly cannot cancel it unless you got a pass from god ...lol

i'm real surprised DENIC isn't having one of the auctions on this, you'd think they'd have 1st say on this, not auction sites or registrars (+ some registrars are having silent auctions too, uh ? all we needed...)

looks like Sedo's fiercest competitors (GoDaddy, SnapNames, AfterNic, etc) for auctions won't get a piece of this.... any other big names we'd all know doing this pre regging ...? i should swing by NamePros before noon just to see what our buddies there think of all this...

what surprised me was that i went to at least a dozen of the participating registrars from Germany, US, Canada, UK, and not one of them had a banner or any mention whatsoever on their site about this pretty significant .de release. a real head scratcher if you ask me

does anyone know when the official window opens for actually registering at the registrars? (without having pre-registered)

In the last 3 minutes there was so many people bidding or refreshing that the servers couldn't handle it. At least I think it was it, not a DOS attack.........
Now they are up again and were extended by 25 or 30 minutes.

I will not submit a new amount.

Down here as well. If they crashed again, it is their own damn fault.

The end time for all of these thousands of names was precisely the exact same time.

Having hundreds of auctions ending at the same time is kinda stupid.
Seems as though a 12 year old planned the whole .de 1 and 2 letter release

i agree. justice

sedo really are thick as sh*t

i can see p[eople being ripped off anyway, there is a xx,xxx fee anyway for some of the names, IF sedo get them. also if people dont get a registrar where they have german adress as contact they could lose name, plus tm issues further down line

all in all a mess

gave up on those Sedo people, i shot em an email asking about some of the doubts i had as to if i won and got stuck w/a preposterous charge by some "registrar" no one's ever heard of, or as to being free to transfer after 60 days, no answer yet, no surprise at all there....by phone they kept me 40 + mins on hold, no one came to the line, the thing is this has always happened, even when NO extraordinary auctions are taking place, it's useless

i'm amazed nobody from Sedo has bothered to input their own lines here on this thread ?? they tought some comments were rather "hostile" obviously

and extending auctions is something they always do, not for this long usually though, so bidding actually doesn't end until Sedo says so

I was watching an auction that was reaching 1 minute left.. when suddenly it changed for 30 minutes more (after the initial extension). Well, I'm out, I decided not to bid one hour ago...

This is exactly what happened with one of their .mobi premium auctions.

And they still have not learned a lesson. Simply staggering the auction end time would have solved all of this. Plus, I think there is another premium auction going on and ending at the same time???

Sedo has a history with messes like this.

Wait until they DO catch a batch of these and then RE-Auction them again because it "got messed up" the first time...

Due to the extremely high participation in the .De Pre-Auction Sedo?s website was temporarily down. We have decided to extend the auction until 8:00 PM CET. If necessary we will extend the auction later than this time to accommodate additional bids.

We want to apologize for any inconvenience caused and we appreciate your participation in the 1, 2, & 3-Character .de Pre-Auction.

But I still can not access sedo!

Its been over two hours.

And how do you compensate all the other seller auctions that were NOT part of the 1, 2, and 3 character .de fiasco?

Exactly.

Ive had a single letter .ai listed on sedo auction and its only received 200 views in 5 days, since all the regular auctions on Sedo are listed in amongst thousands of .de names

I was more or less pointing to those auctions closing about the same time as the .de auctions or an hour or two later...like now!

If no one can log in and snipe, then what do you say to those sellers? Oops?

To be fair though, they didn't have a lot of time to properly setup their cash grab after DENIC's announcement, so could you really have expected them to have the proper systems in place so that the site didn't crash and burn? Shame on you for thinking they would be able to support these auctions.
