yeah i know what you mean

it just amazes me how nobody at Sedo considered staggering the end times

maybe automatically extending all regular auctions by a few hours, after the end of the .de auctions is the most logical idea. I suppose Sedo and logic dont really go hand in hand, so i wont be holding my breath

After reading all the possible pitfalls and possible high renewal fees for .DE domains, can anyone advise which 2 letter domain extension is more valuable, .DE or .ORG

Thank you

DENIC were crazy not to auction them off themselves. At the very least that's a ton of cash that could have stayed in Germany. I actually emailed them a week back stating this...

----
Would auctioning them off and giving the entire proceeds to charity
not be a better idea? I feel that offering such valuable names on a
"first come, first served basis" will lead to most of the one and two
letter domains ending up with just a handful of people/companies - and
will subsequently be resold for massive profits, potentially running
into many millions. I’m sure there are many charities in Germany that
would appreciate that cash.

Appears now Sedo has gotten the message about end times...to a degree.

Due to large number of bids during Sedo's 1, 2, 3-Character .de Auction and the downtime of Sedo.com's website the auction will be extended as follows:

* - All auctions for domains with 3 or more characters will end at 9:15 PM CET
* - All auctions for domains with 2 characters will end at 10 PM CET
* - All auctions for domains with 1 character will end at 11 PM CET

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your participation in Sedo's 1, 2, 3-Character .de Pre-Auction.

You are still going to have a ton of bids and bidders trying to get in at 915, 10pm, and 11pm.

Look for more crashes to come.

Your idea was a good one Rob, but as usual some of the best ideas aren't heard, and well, maybe it was "too late" for them to back up even if they wanted to.

Apparently they are not closed if the auction is being extended.

See times posted above for 1, 2, and 3 character.

Think the last I saw them inbetween crashes were mid E100,000 each. Although they were probably extended a few times after this so who knows what the final price was.

Think total bids on Sedo would be approaching 5 mill..... Not bad for a days work IF they can snap them.

Very crazy auction. And very nerve racking. Not sure why some names went for as much as they did.

I show 1a.de closing at 63,000 Euros

Didn't get a chance to bid because Sedo crashed?

Don't worry... Sedo will just reauction the ones they catch. Those who think they won't do not have too long a memory.

What a scam.

Although it could play out like that I am guessing they'll let it ride as there were many strange battles with very high prices. Last time they tried the redo they lost out big time.

As for me I'm hoping it stands as I got some ugly 2 char bids to stick for nice prices......

I CAN-NOT-BELIEVE Sedo hasn't learned from the fiasco of the premium .mobi auction at the end of 2007....!!!!

The core problem, then, was ending all the auctions at the same time, which crashed their systems. They declared, afterwards, that this could NEVER happen again 'cos they had learned from that searing experience.

That little mess got some of us into a 4 month stoush - that was only resolved with some very creative negotiations, involving a lot of bidders from all around the world + Sedo + the Registry...

Now, here is Sedo - not only ending this .de auction for thousands of names at the same time - but, also, running multiple other auctions simultaneously...!!!!

It'd be laughable if the consequences for many people were not so potentially serious.

There's a kind of morbid fascination at that kind of stupidity...

keep in mind they also made a lot more money with all those "do overs" as the bids kept growing. Having a seemed excuse to do that again would not be surprising.

I think you've hit the nail on the head.
