Smile Apple new secret iTablet domain and trademark revealed via WHOIS leak by Markmonitor?

It looks like the Apple and regular press are having a field day today (Christmas) about newly discovered leaked WHOIS info showing that Apple, Inc. had owned the iSlate.com domain (including likely iSlate.co.uk, iSalte.info, iSlate.fr, and many other variations in various worldwide countries).

Markmonitor appears to have accidentally briefly listed Apple, Inc. as the owner of iSlate.com back in late 2007, which was only recently discovered by a MacRumors.com historical WHOIS investigation.

New stories are rampant, but here is one of the best from the Washington Post about this domain name and trademark issue for Apple's possible new iSlate device (rumored slate/tablet device):

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...122500658.html

A little domain detective work has now finally exposed the light on securing trademarks (going back to 2006) for the iSlate device in various countries (including the U.S.)

Someone is going to a lot of work registering worldwide domains and securing worldwide trademarks for the iSlate...

    Your thoughts?

Pretty cool. The word Tablet to me brings connotations of Microsoft as several PC makers have tried 'Tablet PC's' running Windows. I assumed they would go with iTablet but typical Steve Jobs they are going to make up a new word - it also probably means the product that they release will be very unlike Tablet PC's in many ways and will have people trying to copy them, and they will all be iSlate (Apple) knockoffs and thus give Apple tons of free advertising everytime they are mentioned forever - as they get with iPod and iPhone in every single product review for a new MP3 player or SmartPhone.

Now to cherrypick a few iSlate<word>.com domain's so I can say I got sued by Apple!

Edit: Wow everything taken. Some domainers (or Apple) appear to be betting hard on this - islatewireless.com and islateunlocked.com are both available (out of like 20 I tried to bulk register) - going to pass on them, good luck to anybody who picks them up.

People are naive if they think Apple has been secretly trying to do stuff and things happen to leak out about it. This does more to build buzz about it than they themselves could ever do with advertising - think about that.

And, they get all that advertising free.

Just think back to all the hype leading up to the iPhone?

They (apple) are masters at promoting and branding.

And nothing feeds the wires and news better than leaks. Reported rumors and leaks from apple are viral advertising at its pinnacle. And FREE!

All fed by the fact that they rarely talk to the media - so the media have nothing to go on but speculation and this sort of thing most of the time.

Steve Jobs was just named CEO of the decade by Fortune magazine. They had him on the cover and did a (great) very long story about him. He refused to comment on the story! It wasn't an allegation of pedophilia, he was getting named CEO of the decade and he says 'no comment'. LOL. The guy is a media genius.

A follow-up article on the iSlate involving ‘IGUIDE’. Steve Jobs runs a tight ship, and I agree with NameTrader.com that this info was leaked. Any supplier, 3rd party who breaks confidentiality agreements with aapl is no longer associated with aapl.
