Arrow The biggest .com.au domain sale to date

Everyone knows that .com.au's are in the increase in demand after the AUDA relaxed the old, stupid laws about owning and selling them.

Flowers.com.au went for $143,000 - anyone know of any good auctions where GOOD .com.au's are for sale?

But on a gross GDP basis Australia is right up there with Mexico and with less growth potential.

Frankly, although quite a few top domainers are from OZ, I think this one looks a bit expensive.

flowers.com.au sold for AU$153k in 2002. Its always dragged out as a shining light in media releases. I look at it as a once off.

Agreed. The Australian market is in its infancy. Given the cost of domains and the available traffic, your efforts might be better spent elsewhere.

On the flip side, with the regulations the way they are, it presents Aussies with an opportunity to "buy and hold" for the future.

This could be the one that defines the Australian market for the next couple of years. CreditCard.com.au for sale. Now this MUST be worth more than Flowers.com.au!

    Reserve not met though.

This was on offer with DomainShed about a week ago and it was pulled for some reason. It was at $101,000 AUD - again, reserve not met.

Wonder what it will go for? It's definitely the biggest .com.au sale yet?

Until it actually sells and the price is verified by a trusted independant third party then it is just bullshit.

Take Property.com. It is a fair guess that something has happened, but what exactly is far from clear.

Agreed - until a third party verifies the amount, any domain sale price can simply be determined between buyer and seller.

It will definitely be interesting to see how this one goes!!

Frankly, I have my doubts about some of the ones that have been checked, because all sort of jiggery pokery can go on, especially when you consider some of the parties involved.

The bottomline is that unless it appears on DNJ or another trusted third party service of which there are very few, it just didn't happen. Even changes to Admin contacts, tell you very little if there is an intent to deceive. And even DNJ is fallible.

I suppose if a public company like ANZ or Westpac bought it for a few hundred thousand, they would have to declare the price? Annual reports etc.

    OK, here we go.

    I predict $200k AUD

    This is a BIG auction!

If it appears explicitly in the accounts of a Public Company, then that is proof, or as close as you will ever get.

How many times did that actually happen?

Exactly. That's why it's difficult to prove how much any domain name in the world sells for. Grey area!

Oh well, I suppose we will watch in anticipation!
