Candy.com $3 million

Looks like Rick has just got another amazing sale: candy.com $3million
check his blog to see, he's not saying too much right now though
ricksblog.com

personally property.com was always one of my favourite domains in existence and mindboggling potential. that was worth what he got all day long. although, it doesnt look 'developed' and very poor design. Rick you really need to get some decent developers

with this candy sale, i think he got way over its worth. i mean how many people buy that online? sure maybe belgian chocolates etc , but markup is small on sweets and people really love to buy themselves and you can buy them ANYWHERE, and people want NOW, not even tomorrow. anyway congrats to Rick, this is another ireport sale imo where although this is a pure generic, its never worth a fraction of this imho

I would love to be a fly on the wall during his negotiations. He could sell sand to an Arab and salt water to a mermaid.

Congrats to Rick. Would be awesome to see another seven figure sale posted over at DNJournal this early in the year.

I wonder if he actively solicits potential high end buyers, or if they come to him?

I was reading over at Elliots Blog that Rick had Candy.com traffic forwarded to Hershey's a few months back or something to that nature.

That could be the possible buyer.

The sale includes some profit sharing revenue on top of the 3 million cash deal.

Looking forward to the full details of this deal when they are released.

Congrats Rick.

Great sale! My congratulations to Mr Schwartz!

Pred, I agree with you that candy is not one of those things people usually buy over the net, although if they're selling really exclusive candy as you mentioned (like swiss chocolate) that could be done successfully on the net. But If nothing else they could just wrap all the candy they sell in paper imprinted with "candy.com", maybe some people would be curious enough as to visit the site

This is a great domain.

The potential of this domain could surpass property.com, how? Only in theory, only in potential but what if someone sold all their products, all their candy with candy.com on it?

See, with property.com I see big deals, with candy.com, think volume. One piece of candy, one chocolate bar with the candy.com logo, now multiply that a million times. Wrappers all over the world with the candy.com logo. Unimaginable potential.

Different than property but no less significant IMO.

Great deal and great name!

Very nice sale. I wonder if it went to an end user like Toys.com did?

Congrats to Rick! He does have that old magic touch....with almost any big name he touches! I see the value in Candy.com and I bet it gets developed into a major site to sell candy.

FYI -- Hey and regarding property.com the owner of foreclosure.com bought it and he has developers working on it to turn it into a major portal for real estate.

Thank you for clearing that up.

So the whole statement was speculation?
Or just the Herseys part?
Or the forwarding of traffic part?

I must have mis-read what you wrote on my tiny cell phone screen when I was checkin out your blog last night.

I guess with Answers.travel already sold recently (http://www.dnforum.com/f17/answers-t...ad-344461.html), the buyer was left with no other choice but to put their money into some ol' 5-letter 1-word generic name in an instantly recognizable extension.

Such a shame - snooze you lose I guess!! o O ( LOL )

Alternatively, they could of rego'd 400,000+ new domains :S

It would be fun checking your parked account each day

You'd have to make $10k a day parking to turn a profit (ish), annually

It must be one of those domains he loaned on probably $10k and he either died, fell ill or simply forgot to renew..........LOL
Tell ya if you want a licence to print money just blueprint digipawn.com i'm surprised there are no bigger players in this doing it already........set up one and guarantee you could lend more than digipawn.com........and you will make millions just like Rick ;-)

Where does it say there was a sale? His blog says "Candy.com is set to sell". Wonder what this means? Why would anyone announce a sale before it's completed? Maybe he's trying to lure similar to the toys.com sale. The second round of bids for toys.com brought about 5X more money. I don't think the lure will work for this name.
