    CIRA - Are they stupid?

The Canadian Internet authorities (CIRA) claim the following:

'Dot-ca Gains Strength Through Growth While Dot-com Shrinks'

    Article: http://www.cira.ca/news-releases/86.html

To me, it seems quite simple why the .ca numbers skyrocketed .... Canadians were allowed to register them in quantities of more than one!

Now that the initial rush is over, I'd like to see CIRA revisit their study. As a matter of fact, on the anniversary of the 'floodgates' being opened (Dec 1), 22,000 .ca's were not renewed - doesn't speak well for our national tld. Yes, the .ca has become more accessible and will grow in popularity - but don't compare it to a dot com. I am a proud Canadian, but also a realistic one - .ca will NEVER surpass .com as CIRA seems to elude to in their press release.

In Canada .com and .ca are about equal

Which one works best depends on where one is selling worldwide or in Canada.

Here is a test. Got to www.google.ca and perform a search for "com" and "ca" while keeping the search restricted to Canada. One will find about 4.2 million results for both. "com" and "ca"

And Canadian goverments federal, provincial/ territorial and municipal actually use the national TLD in Canada unlike the us.

Registered quite a few .ca's when I could and am now letting quite a few of them expire. Too expensive and not as well used as .com

Will keep a few premium ones mind you (just in case)
