I think Computer.us was a nice .us sale at $17,000 I was disappointed that this was the only .us in the auction as it did well. Definately good for my Court.us though

In actual fact only 1/3 of domains were bought. All high end names over $1m didn't even reach their reserve. (See full results here, including bids on domains not reaching reserve prices.)

That being said I can't believe look.com hit 4.5 million but did not meet the reserve. I would give it up in a minute for 4.5 million. some of the reserves were ridiculously high!

cadillac, there seemed like there was a lot of shill bidding.. another words lets say X domain resevere is 1 milliion.. the will bid it up to 950K, and then of couse it passes. This practice can only hurt sellers in the long run.

Not shill bidding. The auctioneer clearly announced at the start that he would be 'bidding on behalf of the seller'. I would agree that it will hurt sellers in the long run. The auctioneer appeared to trip up over his own bids. Very silly.

Taking bids "off the wall" is common practice in any auction house, selling any item where they have a reserve. They do it to save time as there's no point messing about with bids that go nowhere near the reserve.

I don't think it hurts sellers in the slightest, after all they are the ones who are setting the reserve to begin with. It also stops people entering items into auction as a means of having them evaluated, and if they didn't do it then every man and their dog would be entering names with high reserves and just seeing what they go to....by bumping the bidding up to near the reserve straight off then it makes it a pointless exercise in terms of getting an "evaluation" and you get more domains which owners are genuinely looking to sell.

I have a fair bit of experience with auctions (although not in relation to domains) and I thought last nights auction was very well handled. OK, so the auctioneer got himself a little tied in knots a couple of times, but you try standing up there and keeping your concentration for as long as they do and see how you manage....lol.

My domain cabinets.net sold in the low/no reserve auction on opening night. At first I was hesitant thinking that it wouldn't get proper exposure but in the end I was pleasantly surprised with a $20k sale - my reserve was $5k. Most of the low/no reserves got some action unlike most of the domains in the main auction. Would it be fair to say that low reserves = more bids = higher sales prices?

Good to hear man, you seem to be learning this business fast. Excuse my ignorance but how much does it cost to have your domain listed in the auction? Do you only pay a commission if it sells and your name is picked to be featured?
