Signed.

Where are the registrars that personally own domains? Let's hear where you stand.

Re: CRITICAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Entire Domainer Community

i signed as well..

I like the idea of a domain owners association of some sort.... I'm one of the small players and though I'm making a nice salary, It would be reasonably easy for something like this to wreck what I've built.

Re: CRITICAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Entire Domainer Community

I'm surprised there are no announcements so far.

Re: CRITICAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Entire Domainer Community

I suspect that Tiered pricing whilst not specifically excluded in the contracts may actually be illegal. With Dot TV it is different as Verisign is tiered pricing for domains where it is actually the registrant. With other domains they and the other registries have no claim to intellectual property rights, so what they are actually potentially proposing to do is rip off those with high value domains for providing and identical service to those with no real value. This must surely come under US Anti-Trust Regulations, which would enable the registries concerned to be crushed in a Class Action. Afilias beware, this could be commercial suicide.

Rubber Duck - Nice points and argument against their actions from a different angle.

Acroplex - Am eager too for some updates. Haven't heard anything thus far. I believe ICANN may not have addressed the contract debate earlier this week in their meeting. They actually need to weigh all of the information, views, and posts submitted through their forum which would take some time for sure.

Re: CRITICAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Entire Domainer Community

Not sure if this has been posted in the thread. A Sept 6th letter sent to ICANN urges them to provide ample time for public discourse on the issue of the contracts.

The letter

A significant list of signatories on the letter include:

Directi, Schlund, TUCOWS, GoDaddy, Register.com, Network Solutions, among others.

Another positive element.

Re: CRITICAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Entire Domainer Community

Sounds more like a strategic statement that shifts the current focus on the "eye of the storm". There is a real need to generate lots more noise on the subject, using the conventional and electronic press channels.

Re: CRITICAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Entire Domainer Community

It's nice to see domainers getting active about things like this. 302 people had signed-up when I just signed.

Re: CRITICAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Entire Domainer Community

it is a very good idea if the price of the domain names will be much higher. There are many benefits. One of the most important ones is that many people wount be able to renew names, and the drop market will have much more quality based on this factor. If you really have concern for the price just renew your domain names for 10 years now, and thats it, the problem is solved.

Re: CRITICAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Entire Domainer Community

Frankly that is a moronic reply. If people are going to drop names it is because they are not worth holding, but either of these perspectves is to totally miss the point. It is fundamental to the concept of this business that the intellectual property rights rest with the registrant. It is also fundamental to all avenues of ecommerce. The idea that registries can charge according to the value of that intellectual property, means that the whole concept of who actual owns the property is thrown into doubt, unless this is unequivically resolved. At the moment, the law understands that the registry is receiving payment in lieu of a service. As the same service is being provided to all then then the cost should be the same, given that there will always be some discounting for bulk. If the cost is tiered then registry is effectively acting as landlord and the demain owner is reduce to the status of tenant. Judging by your response, it is not only the registries that are in danger of acting in appropriately purely motivated by greed.

this is my opinion. You are very smart, and I am very stupid, and nothing can be changed.

Your needling and provoking are immature and transparent. This is a serious thread. Please seek attention elsewhere. Thank you.
