This is not at all surprising since it became known about 2 weeks ago that someone has hacked into and obtained the entire electrical grid for the US, virtually the entire North America.

    A virus was discovered.

See, its this little known news that makes this perhaps a necessity beyond what domainers think.

How can we be so sure that someone did that? Because the criminals running our government told us so? Isn't it quite coincidental that at the very same time that Jay introduces this bill this so called infiltration occurs? Why don't any of the power companies know anything about this breach?

Sure, I guess we can blame the government for every DoS, worm, virus, etc. since the start of the internet.

There was a very strong lesson learned in 9-11. Not only did the terrorists bring down the twin towers, they effectively halted the Stock Exchange and burdened the electronic financial markets.

This was very evident and showed not only the US lawmakers but also cyberterrorists that the way to cripple the US is to effectively take out the banking system.

You can believe or concoct every conspiracy theory you want to. In the end, the fact still remains that this is a real threat and a very real possibility.

I do not want additional government oversite. But it is not unlike systems already in place to halt electronic trading to prevent a collapse of Wall Street.

How this effects domains and domainers - well I guess domainers will have to reflect on their own conspiracy to squat on every damn available reg, typo, tm and such in an effort to control the domain market. I get so sick of domainers saying it is their right and yet want their rights protected.

Call it what you like but it's no secret that they want to bring in internet2 which will be a corporate run internet. More or less a bunch of myspaces. The only way to have a website is by a sub domain off of one of the FCC "approved" providers. This will allow for the government to tax and further regulate. All this is just a pretext. The real terrorists are within our boarders sitting up in Washington.

Actually, Internet2 is currently the sole domain of universities and the military run solely on optic fiber.
It's a more robust version of the internet running on IPv6 and has fewer bottle necks as each major node also becomes a routing server as well.

You are correct but it will be introduced to the masses as a fast, safe and likely free internet. They are letting the current infrastructure rot out. Internet2 will be the replacement and it will be corporate run and government regulated much like TV and radio. You will have to apply to the FCC to be approved to be a part of it. It will likely be free because the money generated will be in a lot fewer hands again much like radio and TV where 5 corporations more or less own all TV networks and radio stations. I believe they will actually blend TV and internet. If you don't have the money to jump through the government hoops which most won't because it will likely costs hundreds of thousands to get on board you will have to settle with a sub-domain site and abide by the providers TOS > government regulations.
