| Dictionary.com Sold Again
Ask.com has acquired Lexico Publishing Group which operates dictionary.com, reference.com and thesaurus.com. http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080515/ask_reference.html
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In July 2007, Answers.com had tried to acquire Lexico for $100 million cash, but the deal fell apart when Answers.com could not get funding. |

| Answers.com agreed to buy the properties about a year ago for $100 million, but they could not raise the money to complete the deal. So that sale never happened.
Today's news is a new deal with a different company Ask.com, owned by IAC/InteractiveCorp a.k.a. Barry Diller's company. | |

| There is a set of domains that have changed hands quite a bit. Interesting sale, though, if it is true, $100M is a nice price tag for buyer and seller.

| I didn't realise the original Answers.com deal fell through. But at $100m the challenge is ahead of IAC to monetize the wikipedia of the 'word reference' space.
Interesting also is the CNET deal.
Both deals hinge on the ability to develop and monetize. | |

| Dictionary.com is a website thats running simply on its domain. There's no innovation, nothing extraordinary on the site, just a simple dictionary which is not that hard to create.
IMO, dictionary.com and encyclopedia.com are probably two of the finest domains that no one talks about. You don't need to offer anything extraordinary to the consumer, the strength of the domain is good enough to carry you through
