Domain Tools being purchased by TrafficZ

I've heard rumors that Domain Tools is being bought by TrafficZ. Can anyone confirm?

I haven't heard anything, but I can see parking companies evolving into a 1-stop shop for:

    1) Purchase Names
    2) Parking
    3) Hosting
    4) etc.

    Just like Godaddy.

it was obvious they were thinking of selling as all the things they kept adding like the archived screenshots , more personal information etc

they probably sold before they get sued for selling all that info lol as that is not legal in europe, can assure you

It would be interesting to see what changes TrafficZ will introduce to DomainTools. Will domainTools continue mining and selling domain data to greedy lawyers? Probably some of those domain owners who are getting sued have perhaps parked their names at TrafficZ!
Always buying .COM revenue type-ins. PM me!

They weren't the first to do that style of data mining for the domain/traffic industries. Just the first to offer it for sale to the masses.

Trust me, Google's data mining and tracking is worse and far more advanced than even the US Gov's shot at trying to mine data.

If it were me in their shoes, I would have probably done the same, after utilizing it myself for a few decades first of course, heh.

Even so, congrats to Jay if its indeed true.

I'm really surprised that the figure is that low... I mean, when just a domain can go for about $1m, you'd think a massively powerful tool with nearly unlimited revenue raising capabilities, like DT, would go for a bit more than that.

I can't imagine being able to create another website in a similar vein that'll become as popular or as useful, and $18m sounds like the sort of money DT would be making in 3-4 years.

Ah well, what can you do with more than $5m other than waste it or give it away?

I had heard earlier last year that Jay was asking for 25 million for his company. Not sure why he would sell for less than that

...And to think it all started out with a lowly .SC domain name...whois.sc

Goes to show the real power of development and content....

So I wasnt alone in thinking it sounded very low. All depends on revenue I guess.

I was also VERY suprised by this amount and to be honnest I even thought it was a joke.
DomainTools.com worth several multiples of 16 millons.

Jay forgot to be idiot, so you will see how the final price will not be this one!

A figure of 16-18 million seems way too low to me. It's still only speculation though.

Can someone enlighten me why 16~18 million is "way too low" ? Based on what ? Earnings ? Intrinsic value (ie alue of the collected data) ?

The value of just the traffic and database would easily justify a higher price in my opinion. The buyer will indeed be getting a very valuable business with high growth potential.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Google was interested in Domain Tools.

LOL hand me 16-18 million cash and I'd walk to the bank in 2 seconds!

Interesting how the domain space is consolidating.

I think they are speculating that if domain tools was purchased based on revenue, 16 million is a quite a good deal for the buyer. Of course I personally have no idea of their revenue so i can't judge. Although they do seem to have a $5M yearly turnaround according to this: http://retireat21.com/top-young-entrepreneurs/
