    Dear Directi Reseller,

This is an announcement to let you know that starting from 30th December 2005, .INFO Domain names will be processed at $1.49 for the first year. More details on this will be mailed out to you separately, as we are in the process of building a page that allows you to pass on this promotional pricing to your customers.
    .INFO Marketing Program Details

    1. This pricing is available between 30th December 2005 to 30th June 2006.
    2. This scheme ONLY applies to NEW .INFO domain names registered, and only for the FIRST YEAR of Registration. A 2 year .INFO Domain name therefore will be charged as [$1.49 + usual price for 1 year].

    Sales Team
    Directi
    Yours, Rubber Duck

Re: Dot Info Give Away Continues through 2006

    Sounds good!

They must have forgotten to update their reseller pricing matrix (hopefully that is the explanation for the difference between the currently quoted $6.49/7.99 reseller cost and the $1.49 pricing they wrote to you about):

    http://manage.directi.com/anacreon/s...cingServlet%3F

If Directi really mean waht they said in the email they sent to you, they can attract lots of new resellers on the back of being the only major ragistrar (at least as far as I know) that continues to offer sub-2 dolllar prices for .infos in 2006.

It would be useful if you could keep us posted, e.g. if and when they send out the subsequent information they promised you (because at the moment there is no obvious mention of the continued .info promotion on their website and their US support numbers are not responding).

    Many thanks!

... and .info will continue to be a 2nd class gTLD mainly used for test-and-dump purpose.

LOL! That is true. It makes .info more like the poor man's version then.

And what makes us suspect you can't even afford good .info's.

That is also true. Good .info's are worth a lot. I have always said that the part before the dot is more important, at least for gTLDs. But then there aren't a lot of good .info's.

Re: Dot Info Give Away Continues through 2006

It is a dotcom world. There will always be great names in many of the other extentions. How many names in the other extentions ever get a Cease and Desist letter? If you don't have an advantage buying any name then you are in trouble no matter what. There are good .nets, and good .orgs, as well as some good .infos. All this does is drive up the price of the dotcoms. One of my top names is a .net and I paid $1,100 for it, but the dotcom is a major sex site and the .info is related to sex as well. It makes over $1 per day every day. Type-In traffic is what is really valuable, and there aren't enough hours in the day for people to stumble upon a .info.

Dotcom is King! But I am lucky there are many other people who disagree....that means more dotcoms for me. Remember the dotcom collapse in 2000.....it could have been called the .net collapse, but it wasn't. Also, many people thought that having an i in front of the name would make it a good fit for an internet name...turns out an e in front is much better.

With all the free money floating around in dotcoms why would anyone.......

The only C&D I've ever received was on a .info.

One question - if you were building an informational site about new york city, would you prefer newyorkguide.com, or newyork.info ?

Re: Dot Info Give Away Continues through 2006

When I say "dot com" I often think of the great job that Yahoo did in advertising their site back in 1999-2000 with the yodeling, the trailer in the desert and the chorus singing "dot com"

I find it irresistable to sing my own domain name with that "dot com" ending.

.com is king but with good marketing any extention can be great.
I see .net and .info advertised on both cable and local channels pretty regularly.

newyorkguide.com and newyork.info are probably not that comparable, with the latter OBVIOUSLY being a much better choice. Perhaps we could choose between newyorkcity.com and newyork.info.

in that instance i would go with newyorkcity.com; just looked at their website--they could make it look a lot better if they wanted to imo.
