Country: | Let me see if I understand this right....please correct me if I'm wrong. Coke could use the .coke tld Pepsi could use the .pepsi tld Ford could use the .ford tld etc... In other words any company can use their company name as the tld instead of com, net, org, etc, if they're willing to pay at least several thousand dollars for the privilege. Is that whats being proposed? |

Country: | I think it's a crappy idea... I don't think it will ever come to be... and I think .COM will be #1 forevermore... Now I have to go get that ice tea I've been trying to get up and go get for over an hour... I keep getting sidetracked... ![]() ~DomainBELL (Patricia)

Country: | Further dilution of the market. Just like the stock market. Keep printing money if the masses will buy them. Edit: Perhaps this *could* be a good thing for domainers. As there become more & more extensions no one is able to remember / keep track of, the .coms/nets/orgs/cctlds may become more valuable as they will be the ones people can easily remember.

Country: | I think ICANN will vote for this, and then start looking at implementation. That's where it will bog down for a good long while (there's just a lot of details that make this a little too messy to implement).

Country: | I read that it will cost at least $50,000USD in order to register a new .extension. If this will ever be implemented, it will obviously not be a big hit and it will definitely not affect the domain market. |

Country: | .com is like prime real estate in the REAL WORLD. Owning a premium generic 1 word .com is like owning a skyscraper in a huge city such as New York, London, Tokyo, and etc. Yes the Government will always develop properties throughout the country, even in odd places, in rural places. But you can observe that the prime .com properties just like skyscrapers will continue to rise.

Makes me think of AOL Keywords. On a separate note, phishing attempts would skyrocket. "Oh, see, the URL still says google.com" when really it's google.co or some other alternative. | |

Country: | No Problem Chump Change The application fee for a domain name under the proposed system has not been set, but candidates estimate that it could range from €25,000 to €250,000, or about $39,000 to $390,000. Icann is also prepared to set up an auction system if competing groups bid for the same name. Private companies would reap their profit by selling the domain names to registrars, which would then sell them to individual customers. |
