Re: Finally the verdict is out on .xxx

I haven't been following this issue but it occurs to me that forcing porn to the .xxx would offer certain filtering advantages (which are needed). Although, this would be pointless unless similar legislation also prohibited (fined) adult material in the .com space. You'd have to drive all porn from .com to the .xxx domain. This would be difficult to enforce, maybe impossible.

Re: Finally the verdict is out on .xxx

passing a .xxx extension to adult rated websites would have had an impact (sensoring) but since the bid was rejected we'll wait for another time. But i still don't see why they approved of a .tel extension for contact informmation management yet rejected .xxx. The ruling is ridiculous in my opinion and calls for the need for ICANN to become an independent body not under the US Federal direction! Perhaps the UN or other overaching body would do the job better?

Yes, it is ridiculous and I think it is very clear
that the 'decision' had little to do with the
merits (or not) of the .xxx extension...

Regrettably, money and power influences
EVERY decision of this type and I don't think
that the UN would, necessarily, do a 'better'
job.

This was not an ext'n I would have gone for,
but you can't help feeling for the guy who lost
a fortune in sponsoring it! (maybe he should've
'greased a few palms' beforehand?).
