I dont think we need to discuss the buyers intent anymore, I feel bad for the seller, if it doesnt close it needs to be dealt with imo.

Why would the seller let information about the deal go public, before the deal is even closed? Who does that?

And... how does the buyer have control over it if funds haven't swapped hands?

The sale seems completely staged. A story made up to show the potential negative damage the domain will do if sold to the wrong person / group, in the hope of enticing an enraged buyer to come forward and buying it at a premium above $1.25m.
