DNF$: 583 Location: Yellowknife Canada | Seems Australia's anti-racism/hate laws are not all that strong, but there are some recent cases in which they were able to go after Nazi websites: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adelaide_Institute
Also interesting (and good!) in this case is that Germany successfully prosecuted and jailed an Australia national (in Germany) for items published on his Australian website.
Here in Canada such a site would also not be allowed by our laws.
Evil sure lurks in this world.
But I tend to believe what someone else said earlier about this being a scummy publicity stunt by the buyer. If so, good luck to the seller in getting any good future sale for this now tainted property. Greed and evil sure make good partners. |

Country: | The nazi's occupied Norway during the 2nd world war as well, but they got their asses kicked in the end. My grandparents actually had a couple of Jews hidden in their basement during that war. The SS troops visited them twice, looking for Jews, but they couldn't find them.
I can tell you that my grandmother was toe tippin' when the SS came a-knockin'.
True story.

Country: | - Waste of a good domain, and waste of money.
- This could backfire into bad publicity for domainers, with the Snowe bill we outta be concerned about the repercussions.
- In fairness to the seller, it's hard to imagine someone is deranged enough to spend good money like that.
- Last but not least, the transaction is not completed yet. Let's wait.
- Bottom line: the buyer is a loser.

True story. | great story dude.
i've lost track of all the family members involved in both wars.
ranging from soldiers in trenches to firefighters on homefront.
unfortunately all my grandparents died quite a long time ago, but my mum is into family history and some of the war stories are cool. the rest is
all the stories are just handed down, so some sort of die out. very few pics back then either

Noone in their right minds would want to be associated with a Nazi brand.

Country: | There's been a few good examples of marketing in the last couple of years where people have used Nazi imagery, the swastika and others. Usually ends up in a media and public uproar and they get a ton of press. Any publicity is good publicity and all that. Not saying it's right. Certainly exploiting the events of 60+ years ago is disrespectful to those that suffered and died. I can understand their motives though.
I personally own a ton of WWII related domains, names of specific pieces of equipment, mostly armor and vehicles. A lot of them German.
I'm interested in WWII history. I own a collection of over 6,000 original black and white photographs, mostly German, because they liked to take photos and just about every German in the field had a camera whereas it was forbidden on the Allied side.
One day when I've got time I'll build out WWIIPhotography.com, WW2Photography.com, WWIIPhotographs.com and WW2Photographs.com and others I own.
I'll also build out micro sites for all the equipment URLs.
Why? Simply because I enjoy the history of this fairly recent time. I find it intriguing much like people who play WWII based games and who build WWII model kits, etc.
The name schutzstaffel.com being for sale isn't reason enough to lodge some complaint BTW. Someone could buy it and put up a historical information based site. The name itself isn't reason to be all up in arms, it's what it gets used for that should concern you. |

DNF$: 3,148 Location: Canada | I call bullshit This sale isn't going to happen (sorry to the seller, but don't hold your breath).
This domain has been trotted out here and at (...that other board) for months and it just drags out.
You know what happened? Geaney just got a crapload of free publicity. I will be seriously surprised if he coughs up the dough for this.
SS.COM isn't worth x,xxx, xxx for precisely this reason: what the hell you going to do with it? Even if you can think of other meanings for it (Social Security, whatever) it's still got this Nazi baggage and always will.

Country: | Well at this point I am comfortable to say after another fake press release now at $2.5M it is never going to happen. The ole JP knows when he smells absolute BS ( see first pages ) .
Sorry to the seller, you got used big time. SO much so I would sue. He has greatly damaged your reputation and the names. Of course if you were in on it you deserved it, here's hoping you weren't. Not a thing reported about this name will ever be believed now imo.
Yesterday people lost billions on stock plunges and you killed a repeat letter .com . What could happen next ? |
