    Balslev Media announces the acquisition of Casino.de

    HOLSTEBRO, Denmark--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Danish Internet company Balslev Media has recently purchased the German domain name casino.de for Euro 400,000 / US $591,000. This is a new record price paid for a German domain name.

    According to the new owner of Casino.de, the domain name acquisition was a bargain. “The value of the domain consists of several things; first of all it’s the perfect brand name -- it’s short and it describes exactly what we do. Furthermore, many people will find our Web site even if they don’t know anything about us through direct traffic, which is when people type in a keyword domain name in their browser and find a service provider without searching for it first. Additionally, the high price is based on the popularity of online casino and poker gambling on the Web,” says webmaster Jan Balslev.

    The mission with the new Web site Casino.de is to guide gamblers through the jungle of online casinos and poker rooms by offering independent and thoroughly researched information about gambling online.

    The new Web site owner sees himself as a gatekeeper for gamblers who wish to play casino and poker games online -- without gambling on where they are betting as well. Due to the lack of international regulation, there is a growing demand for independent information, therefore it is of great value to online casinos and poker rooms to be reviewed at Casino.de. As with all Internet commerce, trust is essential.

    Casino.de is a German language version of the English language guide to gambling online-casinos.com.     Yep that was my initial thoughts as well, but after thinking about it, they have a concept ready and I believe they will get a decent ROI for their money.

    I'm not en expert in this field, but the regulations changed several times and may change again, so I would call it a bit instable. And German domains have to have the admin contact in Germany, so the company operating the website must comply with the German laws. It cannot be offshore like owners of .com's...

    Gambling is legal in the EU. Yes there are some issues in various countries, mostly trying to protect their own state run gaming interests, but it's not gone unnoticed by Brussels.

    Even if all the owners did was promote German gaming companies this domain would be worth half a million.

    If you didn't notice they're building a guide site for gambling online. Sign up bonuses are often huge for affiliates.

    I can't see why instruction site would be against german rules. Obviously you're underestimating the buyer...

    Heh, sign up (or CPA, cost per aquisition) bonuses are one thing to an affiliate, but rev share is typically 25%-40% for the life of the player.

    On top of that, straight advertising on a site like that would be 5-15k a month per advertiser, depending on what kind of traffic they can generate.

    There's no reason why they couldn't recoup the cost of acquiring that domain in 6 months to a year.
