Country: | GoDaddy now charging VAT - prices up 7% (only to UK users..) Hey all,
After the recent GoDaddy changes (i.e. ability to pay in pound sterling), it seems that they are now charging VAT on all domain purchases - something not advertised by them (suprisingly..)
So now prices are 7% higher (on average) than before. Ah well, Moniker it is then

Country: | Thanks for heads up
Moniker always been the registrar of chice (although they need to stop taking p*ss with adding 4% charges on paypal against tos) but anyway, Godaddy are 'Nodaddy' as we all know
I regularly transfer out of NoDaddy.com
They are good for cheap infos should you need any. That's about it.

Country: | When you go to godaddy.com from the UK it will take you to... http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/defaul...rrencytype=GBP
Just change the last bit to =USD
That might work (not tested).

Country: | No problem Yep, I've been moving my best domains out of (G/N)oDaddy for a while now (to Moniker), it makes the most sense.
GoDaddy have always been fairly cheap (until I got the lower Moniker pricing, that is), however horror stories of them blocking popular website domains due to one (baseless) complaint, and now this 7% price appreciation is putting me off them. As if our current CPI inflation wasn't bad enough Quote:

Country: | I believe it's standard practice for a US company to charge VAT on EU residents. |

None of the other registrars do this.. I believe they absorb the tax themselves. As I say, this is the first time I've seen a major non-UK company pass the VAT onto the consumers. |

This is because US companies shouldn't have an unfair price advantage against their EU competitors, on the EU market.
But in practice almost noone does this.
And.. VAT should NOT be debited if the buyer is a company!

Country: | Judging by the overseas transaction fees charged to my credit card, they are still processing payment in USD$ regardless of what currency is shown. |

Overseas transaction is when the origin of the transaction is outside EU. Cross-border fees are higher, it doesn't matter which currency that is used.
But most banks don't charge this to the customer, even if it may cost more for the merchant.

Country: | GoDaddy started charging VAT some long while ago but I am not sure if they actually have a VAT registration number, which number should be shown on all invoices.

DG | They don't have to have a VAT reg number, not being a EU company. They only have to charge VAT for EU customers, as per agreement between US and EU.
All electronically delivered products and services should have VAT added when sold to a EU customer.
