Andrew,
This should be an interesting TM thing to follow for sure since googles was TM'ed 1 year before google.

Question is, why now ?
Maybe an attempt to mess up Google's IPO ?
Great timing!!! I think Google has enough lawsuits going on while tring to roll an IPO - One less would be good, I would think - SteveQuestion is, why now ?

This will be interesting to watch. The promoters of google may have to pay a big price because googles was TMed much before google.
Genetics.us, Genome.us, Nanotech.us, CosmeticSurgeon.us
CellularPayments.com, ElectronicsEngineering.com,
HollywoodTimes.com, TechnologyTimes.com are on sale.
Great point about bringing up this situation while google is trying to start up the IPO.
Nobody is IN court. As with many legal stories reported in the popular press, this one is chronically mis-reported. Googles filed two oppositions to Google applications in the USPTO. There is no serious challenge here to Google's right to use its mark in connection with its search and advertising services, etc.Gee, do you think their will be an out of court settlement.... DOH!

well..........I'll be..........![]()
Did you read the article. The trademark that Googles holds is based on Childrens marketing...which currently Google is starting to do in a variety of ways which allows Googles to go at them for infringement.Originally Posted by madcamel
I am sure an out of court settlement will come. Just like the WWF had to get permission from the Wildlife Foundation to use WWF which ultimitely Vince McMahon broke and do the Wildlife sued..forcing them to become the current WWE.
Googles could ultimitely force google to change its name but I assume they would instead ask for a large contract...the timing may also have to do with the IPO but that doesnt have a bearing on whether Google has any rights to the name.
Did you look at the trademark registration, instead of what the Googles people say it is in the article?Did you read the article. The trademark that Googles holds is based on Childrens marketing

Uh-oh'z. Google's been around since November 1998, a quick trip to the Web Archive tells me. They may be, in fact, in some deep trouble -- unless of course, they fork over some of that proverbial phat cash.![]()
