Interesting news and it confirms my worries.

No one knows yet if IDN.com names will have a use now that they talk of IDN.ITLDS

Your paranoia stems from a lack of understanding. I get fed up with listening to detractors who have this strange notion that several hundred new registeries that have not yet even been proposed are going to spring from nowhere by Christmas. Find out how long ago it was that the submission for dot EU was originally lodged, then you will realise that they liklihood of even one or two new registries for ITLDs in a relevant timeframe is about as remote as the chances of it raining on the moon.

it seems logical that DNAME is the only solution that can get IDN's running any time soon. Setting up separate gtld's for all the languages would push IDN's back another decade IMHO. I doubt China would wait that long.

yes....but European TLD was delayed because it was not even a united country yet plus lots of burocracy.

I told you, I hope you`re right, otherwise it will be just a big mess for many people.

Well, if it took that long for the Europeans to sort out, how long do you think it is going to take to agree a Pan Arab version of dot Com (and don't forget Farsi and Urdu use the same alphabets), or indeed how long it would take to agree the ground rules for Bangla or Urdu Versions, taking into consideration the widespread use of each in India. Even Hebrew could be very problematic? Also Russian is not only spoken in Russia, the script is used through much of Eastern Europe and the language is still prevalent in central Asia.

I disagree...

Setting up separate gtld's for all the languages would push IDN's back to the womb.
