The last day to submit applications was 16 March 2004. A public comment period will open 1- 30 April 2004." So thanks very much for the info.
(Would have liked it very much if the answer to your question was going to be .sex instead of .xxx!?) |

See they're bowing down to Microsoft and Nokia for the .mobi
and duping new.net giving .xxx elsewhere! |

The .mail one sounds like it might be reasonable, but then I see the sponsors are setting it up as an anti-spam solution and not new domain space. It looks like you could only register third level domains, like dnforum.com.mail, and then only if you already have the version without the .mail at the end. Hrm. Well, if it works as an anti-spam solution that'd be cool, otherwise there's no point to it... and you'd think whatever technological solution they have in mind could just as easily be done through some other name, like dnforum.com.notspammail.net.

Country: | Re: ICANN anounces ten new TLD proposals These are all SPONSORED domains. It will remain to be seen who will be able to register them and for what purpose. http://www.icann.org/announcements/a...nt-19mar04.htm
I read part of the .mail proposal, and you will NOT be able to use a name.mail domain for your regular website, and it will not even be seen in the email address. It's a behind the scenes email address (pseudo protocol) for spam free email. If you now own domain.com, you would send spam-free email from an address domain.com.mail. it would appear you could only "register" a name you already own in another tld. The TLD is sponsored by Spamhaus.org.
It also appears .cat will only be sites in Catalan language, whatever that is. I don't suspect they will be allowing kitty.cat for an english site.
.post is a postal office controlled domain. Here's a sample of their naming
Convention: -<3-letter-code>.post
Examples: ottawacentral-can.post, marnelavallee-fra.post,
washingtonsouth-usa.post, jakartacentral-ind.post, pharmaprixquebec-can.post,
apcmorillon-fra.post http://www.icann.org/tlds/stld-apps-19mar04/post.htm
Lots of restrictions in these sTLD's. |

.tel | It appears from reading the proposals, that only .mobi in your list will be a TLD in the normal sense. The .mail TLD is a behind the scenes domain, .post is third level after the country and related to the postal system, and one .tel proposal is very similar to the enum proposals from the past using only international telephone numbering in reverse with dots between each letter.
Most are unconventional use of the DNS. |

Jeff Pulver (pulver.com) is a big name in IP Telephony/VOIP/SIP
and a bit of competition from http://www.telname.com/ who looks to be a bit more well-organized (at least their site is nicer and dedicated to the tld).

does this mean that they have actually been approved? | None of the new proposals have been approved. New.net did not even put in a proposal. If you have one from new.net and .xxx approved by ICANN, you are basically screwed. |

new.net could lose a lot of customers if people start to realise that they arent real TLD's |
