Icann should harry up , especially with netsol case
It would be fun to see how this issue comes up at the ICANN Public Meet in New Delhi.
I am Awesome!
when are they meeting is it time for co'ins?
ICANNT believe it![]()
"Don't expect any immediate relief. The committee, the Generic Names Supporting Organization, could take months or years to review the matter, after which ICANN's board still would have to vote on any changes."
Wow, they are just jumping right on top of this with both guns blazing.
Was on another forum and it seems to be "The Thing" to do. Why tie up legit uses for marketers?
I hope it's soon.
Maybe because it forces end users to resort to the secondary market to buy their domains instead?
I don't see how this is a negative thing if you happen to be a domainer.
People are wondering why sale prices are sky high, even for low quality names. Tasting is a fair size piece of that puzzle.
Must be the enduser that's still in me.
I'm feeling like a visionary. I mention something needs attention ... and 3 years later it makes the news.![]()
Most interesting is how did a CNBC reporter catch wind of this? This is a relative microscopic blip on the radar. Nonetheless, glad to see it get addressed.

Something is better than nothing and better late than never. Maybe my grandkids can get domains without competition from tasting. LOL

As I said in another thread:
That brings back memories of ten years ago - January 1998. I was a newcomer to the US, with no financial capability to register dozens of names. But I played a "game" for entertainment: looking up domains at the Network Solutions web site. I would then occasionally check back a week or two later and they were gone. Two names that I can recall finding available are DoubleZero.com and TripleSix.com - both registered since February 1998. Much later, in mid-2000, I got involved in buying my first domains with the intent to resell and I was told how Network Solutions had been practicing the selling of WHOIS queries to third parties.
ICANN *must* be lobbied from all sides to end this practice of domain tasting that allows now the registars to play such games on the backs of users around the world.
ICANN = Paper Tiger

Hell freezes over pretty well.
A question the media should be asking ICANN, especially the financial media is what is ICANN doing with those huge multi-million dollar deposits that the registrar/tasters leave with them. That part of the story always seems to be omitted.
I can't see ICANN putting on the breaks anytime soon. Too many companies have invested a lot of $$$ in this. I'd note two things:
1. The report is very carefully worded with lots of "potential" issues / problems.
2. Some of the options discussed on mailing lists etc.. are to add a cost to the process. This really isn't going to solve anything. What it will do is become a revenue raising exercise for ICANN, should they implement a tasting fee.
It's a shame that the recent behavior by Network Solutions has brought this process out into the light. Unfortunately come people are confusing tasting with Netsols recent practice.

ICANN will be concentrating on their move to Switzerland, if not completed.
ICANN will be concentrating on avoiding litigation and class action lawsuits by RegistryFly holders and shareholders and domainers.
ICANN will be concentrating on booking first class passage and 5 star hotels to New Delhi.
ICANN will be concentrating on the release of new domain extensions.
ICANN will not be concentrating on anything other than making money and avoiding losing money.
ICANN certainly will not be concentrating on issues and problems with domainers and private commerce.
Meeting adjourned.
LOL, nice Doc!
