Whatever way they spin their corruption and lies - regarding the TLDs that are shared by all (.biz .info etc.):

These are OPEN markets - in TLD that can also be used by all the public and small businesses, without registered trademarks - ALL OVER THE WORLD.

It is unlawful for big corporations, that do have them, to be given priority above everybody. It is gross violation of Trademark and Competition Law.

ICANN are law-breaking - by aiding and abetting them in this crime.

DNMole: Unless you are Network World, you don't have the right to republish that copyrighted article here. The link would be fine, maybe with a paragraph copied over as a snippit, and a rewording of the most important points into your own words.

Garry: ICANN has been given legal authority to make these decisions. Whether that authority should be more closely monitored is another thing entirely, but you going off the deep end doesn't help the situation any.

Sorry Dan - I do not go over deep end.

It is simply stating a fact.

ICANN are a US government QUANGO.

Fact - US government cannot give them legal authority to both violate national and also international law.

For a start - where is the ammendment to US Trademark Act?

Or show where this so-called "legal authority" has been agreed precedence over trademark and competition law by congress.

AND - once you have done that - show the US government agreement with other countries that allows them to do this?

    True. I'll edit it.

Thanks, although it should really be DNForum thanking you for helping them be in compliance with copyright law. I haven't seen them make a position either way, so I guess you can post whatever and let them sort it out if it becomes a problem.

As far as the contents of the article goes, for some reason I just ignore any instance of ICANN saying they'll be making new extensions, as the last set was so lackluster and public comments at the time seemed to show that they wanted the next ones to be even more boring and useless.

Unless they got it in their heads to finally do .web right, I can't see any new extensions being significant for a long, long time.

[And I'm ignoring Garry because he's more than shown in the Legal issues area that he doesn't have the slightest clue how anything works.]

How many TLDs do we need!!!!?
Go ahead dillute the already existing new and dying ones (info, biz, us....org,net in respective order).....and power up the already king of the jungle.....the ... .COM.
You think the .COM is KING now? wait and see!

I know, some of us like the new (now not so new) .info and ,biz etc.....
and are trying to promote them as superb and great (maybe because we wished we had a great .com)
But.. even so, ask ourselves (the domain know-it-alls)... this question.....what extension would i prefer have with a keyword lets say "cigars"....
    cigars.biz ? cigars.tv ? cigars.us ? or CIGARS.COM ??????
