ICANN Moves Against GoDaddy Domain Lockdowns

DomainGenius, there are a few choice words that I'd like to put in that blank, but I can't post them

DNP, GD hasn't given a damn about individual domainers for the last couple years. Long gone are the days when they actually cared about customer service.

I've been there since about 2002 I think. Do you know how long it's taken me to pull almost 1000 domains out of GD?

Word to the wise...don't expect any gifts from GD.

Speaking of shitty registrars, what's the deal with Tucows? It would seem that they now keep every single dropping domain with a value over $20, and forward it to Netidentity. Playing around with them, I offered them $300K for a $100 domain recently to test their resolve, they politely replied saying they don't sell domains.

As for 'it takes time' to Stop this policy, as someone else eluded to - BS! (as well). If GD and it's management had any Integrity - this would be stopped in an instant.

I'll like to see the stats on How many people had their domains prevented from being stollen with this policy vs. the # of people whom GD screwed-over with this policy (while just coincidentally making a few extra dollars on hostage renewals).

That's more annoying than Godaddy's imo, at least with Godaddy you can still push during the 60 days. I'll be glad to see all of this done away with though, thanks for the article.

Yes, gd still does the 60 day hold. I just pushed some domains from one account to another account yesterday and I in order to do it, I had to agree that the domain would be held for 60 days, ie, you can't transfer it out, you can just push it to another account within gd.

Godaddy has updated the 60 day rule ????

Now during pushing/accepting a domain we are presented with two agreements .Was it there before??

I have read and agree to the Domain Name Change of Registrant Agreement. I understand and agree that, by confirming this Change of Registrant, I am authorizing GoDaddy.com, Inc. to reject all requests to transfer this domain to another registrar for a 60-day period.

I understand that, if I want to transfer this domain to another registrar during this 60-day period, I should decline this Change of Registrant, and I should instead make arrangements to transfer the domain to the new registrar and make any necessary changes after the domain has been transferred.

Somebody please confirm.

Sounds like you have a choice now, from what you posted widedesigns. I'd say they did something, but an avid GD'er can confirm!

Older pushes ...still locking down for 60 days..received a push on 4/1 and today 5/5 ....transfer out denied...guess I have to renew and wait another 60 days..

New pushes don't have the 60 day lock down..see below

The transfer of xxxxxxxx.ORG from GoDaddy.com, Inc. to another registrar could not be completed for the following reason(s):

Express written objection to the transfer from the Transfer Contact. (e.g. - email, fax, paper document or other processes by which the Transfer Contact has expressly and voluntarily objected through opt-in means).

The express written objection may be the result of a pending or recently completed Change of Registered Name Holder. This is an opt-in process during which the new Registered Name Holder agrees not to transfer for 60-days. This domain will be transferrable on 6/1/2008.

But I just pushed a domain from one of my godaddy accounts to another and initiated a transfer-out so we'll see if anythings recently changed as I believe I didn't opt-in anywhere

update Confirmed I pushed between two accounts and was able to to transfer out within minutes

But I have to give them credit for transferring out in a matter of hours once the request comes in. Most registrars take 7 days.

200+ at g-daddy ...all to be trans-out at my will g-daddy to fab. ....moniker ...etc..minutes to trans out now

i've got a 6 week old drop over at answerable and they blocked the transfer to Moniker.
have i got to wait 60 days to transfer out of these whores? or can i play the icann card. 60 day thing really gets on my man boobs

New registrations and previous registrar - registrar transfers are 60 days under ICANN rules.

GoDaddy were using the ICANN registrar to registrar transfer rules as an excuse to block transfers out following transfers between internal accounts and even minor WHOIS changes without an internal account transfer.
