I would love to hear how a domainer in China has influence on Chinese consumers.

How many .cm domains do you plan to sell to your fellow Chinese citizens?

Anyone that follows the Chinese domain forums will pretty know that the sentiments from the hundreds of domainers that post there that idn.cn and idn.com are hands down most popular in that space and probably a good investment for the future.

idn.cn already resolves to idn.idn within China, and Versign has plans in the works to alias (or additionally offer) idn.com as idn.idn as well in most languages.

All in all, this move is just another part of the massive launch that will begin in the fall for idn.idn. Russian idn.idn has been cueing up for almost a year to begin sunrise this fall and all the press and interest really sent Russian idn.com traffic spiking. The idn.idn process and testing has been over 10 years in the making... but finally ready for launch in dozens of international languages.

    Auto translation:
Minkomsvyazi June 25, reported that Russia presented the international community to plan for the introduction of Cyrillic domain top level domain .рф. The presentation of Russia were introduced in Sydney, The International Conference ICANN (Internet Corporation for management of domain names and numeric series). According to the Deputy Minister of Communications and Mass Communications of Russia Alexei Soldatov, the country is "organizationally and technically ready to receive Cyrillic root domain".

As noted by Soldatov, "participants in the process of formulation of global rules and standards were pleasantly surprised that the Russian Internet community, and Coordination Center had done so much to have Russia organizationally and technically ready to receive Cyrillic root domain". In November 2008 the first President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev expressed his full endorsement of the idea of introducing a national domain. END QUOTE

    From April 22, 2009:
The Director of the national domain coordination center said at the opening of the Moscow conference ( http://ok2009.ru/ ) today that:

.рф (translation= .RF for Russian Federation) should begin it's registration period on Sept 09 for govt, tm holders and other right holders, and on March 10, 2010 for public registration. Only Russian passport holders may apply.

    http://www.rian.ru/science/20090422/168947031.html

    STARTING AT ONLY $31,000...

According to the announcement below, the registration (after the sunrise period) for “regular” folks will take a form of a Dutch auction, where the initial price will be 1 million rubles, which is around $31K. (Speculation is that this number will drop hugely once the cherry picking is over).

Thats the beauty of all of this - we have no say.

    The consumer wins, don't they.

These anti-mobi threads going back to 2004 (yes, 2004) on DNF about the death of mobi and mobi is not needed is enough to put anyone in a coma.

So while domainers were in a coma, mobi was launched. And here we are, June 2009, and .mobi is still here and growing.

And for each and every single reason that domainers have found and used to justify the death of .mobi, dot mobi is still here.

    Now what?

    What's next?

What is the next "final nail" in the coffin of dot mobi?

Despite domainers disdain for .mobi, it still lives and is growing.

I have read and listened to more than 5 years of domainers coming out against .mobi.

Sure is a lot of clout, right?

So what else can domainers come up with for the reason we don't want or need .mobi?

.biz is growing too.... .eu is growing too... Are they 'hot' among end users ?

We are talking about modest growth BTW. mobi stats for the last week:
    6/21 839891
    6/22 839575
    6/23 839068
    6/24 839477
    6/25 839020
    6/26 839390
    6/27 840021

Other TLDs are growing at a much faster pace, the corollary is that .mobi marketshare is decreasing.

I think it is best when you do the test, here as you might be the only person you can trust and we wouldn't know how to do the properly.

Read the chinese domain forums, and tell me how many sales you see there of .mobi and tell me which top 1000 chinese company uses .mobi in the advertisement. I like to see how an american domainer influences the chinese consumers.

I have enough preorders from them, they also bought plenty of .com.cm has they do have chinese traffic.

btw. I was telling my friends about this thread and your view on the chinese market, they had a good laugh, and no they are not domainers.

Great. Perhaps you can teach them something about domains.

Tell your china friends who do own .mobi that they should really consider making their sites mobile compliant.

That way they will have traffic from everyone sitting in front of a PC and a mobile.

While you are busy explaining all the finer details of .mobi to your friends and convincing them to buy .cm, have then vote for the espy awards on espn.mobi

Now, if your friends have never heard of the NBA, Olympics, or ESPN, then I am truly at a lose for words.

Please lodge your complaint with the proper authorities that ESPN chose a .tv or a .mobi to get fans to vote for the espy awards.

I had no influence on ESPN.

Do remember, you and your friends are prohibited from voting because they laughed at anyone using a .mobi and I trust you and your group don't want to be laughed at for actually using a dotmobi.

Behind the Broadcast: NBA draft too long, needs to be streamlined
    Saturday, June 27, 2009
    By Ken Schott (Contact)
    Gazette Reporter

    Text Size: A | A | A

At 12:07 Friday morning, the Miami Heat made the final pick in the NBA draft, selecting Memphis forward Robert Dozier.

The chances of Dozier making the Heat are about as good as me winning a Pulitzer Prize, which is why I continually get frustrated with the NBA draft.

The NBA draft is the shortest of the four pro sports leagues, lasting just two rounds, and is scrutinized as much as the NFL draft. Mock drafts abound.

But as the shortest draft, why does it take so long? To last just over 41⁄2 hours is ridiculous. When the final pick was made, I half expected the late Ed McMahon to come out and say to the crowd, “I hold in my hand the last envelope,” and have the crowd cheer wildly, like they did during the “Carnac the Magnificent” skit on “The Tonight Show.”

Watching the NBA draft on ESPN is like watching a year’s worth of the final two minutes of an NBA game. It takes forever to reach a conclusion.

There has to be a way of making the draft more TV friendly. How about giving teams three minutes in the first round, and then one minute in the second round. Let’s face it, second-round picks are, at best, destined to sit at the end of the bench and be cheerleaders and wave towels over their heads during the playoffs.

The NBA draft should be over by 10 p.m., 10:30 at the latest. Going past midnight is unacceptable.

    LOVE HDTV

After watching the U.S. Open over the weekend, now I know why high definition TV is incredible.

The replays NBC showed were wonderful, especially when they had the super slow-motion shots on chip shots. You could see every single blade of grass as the ball was struck. It was beautiful.

    I love my HDTV.

    ESPY AWARD NOMINATIONS

Michael Phelps has earned four nominations for the ESPY Awards, which will air July 17.

The 14-time Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer is nominated for male athlete, championship performance, record-breaking performance and U.S. male Olympian.

The NBA Finals matchup between Kobe Bryant and LeBron James didn’t come off, but Bryant and James will compete for male athlete honors, along with

    NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson.

Bryant was also nominated for championship performance and NBA player, a category he won last year.

Serena Williams, Candace Parker, Olympic all-around gymnastics champion Nastia Liukin, Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin and Connecticut basketball player Maya Moore were nominated for the female athlete award.

Fans will determine the winner in 37 categories by voting online at www.espys.tv, or via mobile phone at www.espn.mobi.

Three special awards will be presented.

The Arthur Ashe Courage Award will be given to Nelson Mandela. The Jimmy V Award for Perseverance will honor Don Meyer, Northern (S.D.) State University coach who refused to give up on life while battling cancer and surviving a

major car crash. The Best Comeback award is being given to Dara Torres who, after an eight-year absence and at 40 years of age, competed in the 2008 Olympics.

You must have put all your savings into the .mobi domains. I understand it is hard to let go, having invest so much money and know seeing it go down the drain. Buy some more .mobi, makes you feel better.

Naw, no savings at all. Money made in investments and in the sales of other domains. Perhaps 15-20% are .mobi. My largest holdings are .com, .net. And, believe it or not, IDN - maybe a hundred or so.

內勁.com and 西王母.net are both getting decent traffic and a few clicks at sedo.

Don't think you'll see me in the .cm thing.

Ain't that a kick in the crotch?

A little known company trying to make its name for itself, called espn, using only .mobi and .tv for espy awards, which are HUGE here in the states.

Why did they do that? The fools! They'll fail. ESPN will never make it big now.

I am sure no one in China has heard of espn so I am not sure why I even brought it up.

Sure everyone here has ESPN, the local government requires people to watch it at 3 hours per day.

IDN.com for sure have traffic, I have a few myself.

if you invest in .cm or not, doesn't matter to me at all, as you are not our customer.

.mobi is said to be more popular in certain coutries like the Netherlands or South Africa. I've never been to ZA, however I was in Amsterdam recently and .nl is everywhere, you sometimes see a .com but the dominant TLD is .nl. It must be the ccTLD that has the highest penetration rate - there are 3m+ .nl registered for 16m people. I have not seen any advertising for a .mobi domain. This is not to say that it doesn't 'exist', but it's not prominent.

IMO the IDNs have yet to mature in mainstream TLDs. IDN enabling of .eu/.mobi is barely newsworthy.

IDN's are about to wipe away any doubt that they should have been released long ago.

With suddenly hundreds of millions of new IDN domains, which one method or extension do you suggest will be used to access a mobile site? With hundreds more gTLDs being released, which one method or extension do you suggest will be used to tell everyone that the site is compliant and works with ALL mobile devices and PC's?

You are getting ready to see the internet like you or I have never seen - a very fractured, chaotic, segregated internet that will be so piecemeal that there will be no common thread, no one way of accessing anything, and not a very good thing for domainers that park names. The release of IDN will be a shock to many and the subsequent release of new gTLDs will be even more chaotic.
