IDN.mobi Link
Domainers have no idea of the impact this will have on domestic and foreign markets because this move was not done with domainers in mind.
As a matter of fact, neither is IDN.
Wait.
dotMobi was also not conceived with domainers in mind.
so most of .mobi are held by companies and not domainers ?
and now as you register IDN.mobi all oversea compnies in China, Thailand, Japan, Russia will get their domains?
I have my doubts.
I have tried to enlighten people for three years, now.
Three years ago, I was writing about this very thing.
IDN and Mobi and IDN.mobi.
I have spent enough hours covering this to write a book.
I have no plans to write a book.
Nor do I have plans to re-hash three years of threads here, NP, two or so years at mobility, and the untold numerous blogs all over the internet.
It is time for me now to embark in a new direction for personal gain and benefit. I soon start coursework and will have my nose in the books and online courses venturing into the world of Health Informatics.
as for IDN.mobi, as far as I know AT PRESENT it is China. The rollout begins in a few weeks.
there are not too many IDN.com used in China for actual websites, so I still have my doubt's that mobi will make it here in China. Haven't seen a IDN.cn or IDN.com being advertised in China.
IMHO IDN.com and IDN.cn (which already resolves to IDN.IDN in China) are the new kids on the block, it will take a little time, but not much. Have you taken a look at the amount of 'Content' on the internet in Chinese? It is astounding...
Only a small percentage of people use Google in China, and yet the Google numbers show they are passing up English usage very quickly. And by English usage, I mean English usage in the entire world. Same is true for some top Russian words.
As far as IDN.mobi, only an insider would know about IDN.mobi in China and what's really going to happen with it.![]()
Here's a glimpse into the "parallel universe" of domaining...in this case an example for China.
Searching the word "content" in Chinese "内容" brings up 1,250,000,000 google serp...yup, 1.25 billion
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...&aq=f&oq=&aqi=
FYI..."Content" in English brings up 1,510,000,000 google serp as a comparison.

a. these are not big companies
b. the websites are not designed for mobile phones
c. no ads (TV or print) here in China with .mobi , trust me I live here
d. I saw quite a few of the .mobi with chinese content but no ICP, so they are illegal
See, this is what you said.
So, I show you something with Google.cn
And suddenly,
you change and adapt a new story...
Obviously many people/companies is China HAVE heard of it and ARE using it.
I could care less if they take a .mobi and make a PC site or take a .com and make a mobile site.
Last, but not least, we can't overlook weiwei.mobi.
Nope, no one has ever heard of her.

Doc i think you are kinda digging with this one... snicksnack didnt change his story at all from what ive read in this thread and the guy actually lives in china and from what i've heard from others in china its basically the same story... yea i like .mobi but sometimes the positive spin gets old.. cant we all agree on something reality based once in a while?
For him to say that he has not seen a mobi in china, that makes it official? mobi is not used and exists?
Because he lives in China?
But, of course, me saying that others from China have mentioned it, have used it, and have seen it - you would rather that I take his word coupled with yours and we call it the official mobi does not exist in china thread?
His claim of "most of the people/companies here in China haven't heard of .mobi and I have never seen a single .mobi being used in china and the fact that they will now have IDN will not change this"...
feel free to substitute USA, Canada, DNF, Japan, any word or nation or whatever.
I am sure that you can show me the advertisement from companies like Midea, Haier, Sunning, Gome where they use the .mobi.
Let ask 100 people in China on the street what .mobi is and see how many have a clue.
Geez, it is 2005 all over again.
Ask them if they know what .com is, .net, .org, .edu, .gov...
Or if you want to confuse the hell out of them, ask if they have heard or use:
.com.cn
.net.cn
.org.cn
or
AH.CN .BJ.CN
.CQ.CN .FJ.CN .GD.CN .GS.CN .GX.CN
.GZ.CN .HA.CN .HB.CN .HE.CN .HI.CN
.HK.CN .HL.CN .HN.CN .JL.CN .JS.CN
.JX.CN .LN.CN .MO.CN .NM.CN .NX.CN
.QH.CN .SC.CN .SD.CN .SH.CN .SN.CN
.SX.CN .TJ.CN .TW.CN .XJ.CN .XZ.CN
.YN.CN
I am sure you are right and once Kiribati introduces IDN, it will be the biggest hit ever in China, but I am sure you knew that already and we here in China are simply too stupid to realize this, it takes you to make us understand it. Thanks.
