Exclamation insurance.com acquisition cost was $35.6 million

Just mentioned (within the first 5 minutes) of the Quinstreet conference call:

    http://finance.yahoo.com/news/QuinSt....html?x=0&.v=1

That would be a record public domain transaction, (might be higher ones that have never been disclosed) if one considers it a domain name sale. I would consider it one, given they'll likely dump all the content, etc.

There will be a replay of the conference call later, for those who missed it.

The recording of the conference call is now available. One can access it via 1-800-406-7325 in the U.S. and Canada, or 1-303-590-3030 for international callers, using passcode 4328774# (as mentioned earlier, the price is mentioned in the first 5 minutes or so).

Just heard it - very solid sale. However, even if they dump the content, I don't think it can be considered a pure domain sale due to the market share controlled by the established site.

Great news for me as I acquired an insurance domain recently (the domain name I mentioned at my domain name news site (in my signature)). I am in the process of developing it and will be live in a few days or a bit longer.

Later on in the call Quinstreet made it clear that it's not a domain transaction. That said, a lot of people think Insurance.com by itself is the most valuable domain name in the world. It's certainly up there.

Alexa 50k site and on page 1 in Google for Insurance - this is not strictly a domain transaction. Probably makes a mint as is.

I know somebody with a niche (Country) insurance site that is Alexa 1xx,xxx that has 150 empoloyee's (most of whom process applications).

Gold and oil are not something that commonly used for business compared to loan and insurance.

Gold - it is too expensive for common people.
oil - we just go to the gas station don't look for it.

The biggest ppc money maker for google is INSURANCE, they want 2M+ A DAY now to send any large insurance companies 130K or so insurance related clicks IN THE USA ALONE. Targeted ppc like los angeles auto insurance is now close to 40 CPC, most US insurance clicks are in the 16 to 20 buck range. From what I heard, they were basically a lead generator for a handful of top firms. The key to insurance is finding a deal not just for commissions but getting a piece of the residual income that agents get. So yeah, insurance.com is a mega industry keyword and for the net, it's the top ppc money maker there is. We recently developed like 200 or so GEO terms, GEO insurance, GEO auto insurance, GEO life insurance, it's one of the largest networks I know of for insurance related keywords, we got a huge SEO deal on it too, local satellite offices, local numbers, so yeah, lots of money in insurance domains coming, more and more companies are getting tired of paying google 20 to 40 bucks a click, and 1M+ a day, so to an insurance giant insurance.com for 35M is cheap, just look up the ppc estimates for insurance in the USA alone, you will see, 2M+ day google wants as a budget now for 130K insurance clicks they have inside the USA. Insurance is the play for domains.

You got 300M or so people in USA alone, you know around 3M+ are looking for INSURANCE related stuff everyday on google.

No other keyword I can think of has a higher % of the population looking on google everyday for it.

We used to think 'flowers' was a big traffic hog, then we started doing some insurance stuff, WOW, that's the mother load as far as natural traffic from search engines that isn't topical or seasonal, I don't think 1% of the US population goes to google everyday looking for SEX even. Now 1% of the population might be using sex sites, that they found from google and stuff, but everyday 1% or so of the US population is looking for insurance info. They get a rate hike in the mail, they go screw this I'm moving to a new company, they look, so yeah, like 1% of the population is looking everyday about insurance stuff on line, just do some traffic estimates and back out the numbers. HUGE % of the population looking for insurance info. Just do searches for all the top insurance terms, insurance, car insurance, auto insurance, life insurance, health insurance, business insurance, renters insurance, you add up all the searches it's huge, google can provide a company like 130K clicks a day, so you muliply that by 30 times, and you have 3M+, 3% is the top CTR anyone can ever have, so if they can get you 130K clicks and they want 2M a day for it, you have a huge % of people in the USA alone looking for insurance stuff. Makes sense, everyone has insurance, car, life, health, home, renters, whatever, everyone gets rate hikes, everyone gets pissed and looks for new rates, LOL. Now who is 'looking' like that for any other sector? Nothing. Yeah, gold and oil is valuable, so is real estate, but the search numbers are minor, insurance companies loose and gain new clients every day, they need to feed on new policies or they go broke, just look at who is on TV now all the time INSURANCE COMPANIES, the economy goes soft, guess what, you still need car insurance to drive, you still need health insurance, it's like food, only people don't look for new foodstores everyday because some giant pissed them off with a 30% rate hike. Insurance is the top domain category there is, the problem is, big companies are the big end users, the local brokers aren't the end users, so finding a way to sell direct to mega bucks insurance companies is the key, we're doing our network as a lead generator, we have brokers willing to take the leads, that can't afford to pay 40 bucks a click now, so if google gets 40 bucks for a click, what's a lead with a name and phone number worth? CHA CHING
