Local.com (LOCM) was recently awarded a patent for geographic search on the web . This patent will encounter rough sailing ahead as it is neither original nor inventive. The bulk of this post will explore the patent’s deficiencies, and refute CEO Heath Clark’s claim that “the methods covered have subsequently become the de-facto standard for information retrieval in the local search industry.”
STORY
Unfortunately I am not surprised that such a patent was issued, worthless as it will undoubtedly be proved to be. Of interest is the fact that the press release by the company went un-noticed however a blog entry sent the shares soaring just because it got picked up by Yahoo!
Now I had better start work on my press release but most importantly who can I get to write a blog entry?
