Local.com sells for $700,000 this week.

So far it's the biggest sale of the year. Musical.info also sold for close to $14,000 this week making it the biggest .info sale of the year.

Any domain is worth what some fool will pay for it! I am as guilty as the next man for over paying for some domains.

A domain,s value is extremely subjective until you have sold it and have the cash in the bank. You trying getting a loan using domain names as collateral

Yes, it would seem that some are venturing into new territory with dot infos. Anybody's guess as to whether the buyer will ever turn a profit on the acquisition and it will also be very much down to his business accumen. A well developed site can turn a fortune, but there is a bit more to it than a bit of web-design.

Personally, I am now shying away from:

1) High cost renewals such as dot tv and dot cn.

2) Paying high prices in secondary market.

To achieve this I have adopted the strategy of buying new registration IDN dot coms in developing markets, such as Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Hindi. Most professional domainers are turning their noses up, especially those who turn-over their portfolios to earn income or rely on traffic revenue. However, for long-term growth the quality of what is availabe for about $7 is unbeatable.

Re: Local.com sells for $700,000 this week.

Google kills many good traffic domains and web sites built for traffic revenue like adsense and affiliates are getting killed by their algorythm tweaks.

So traffic names bring in revenue but once they get killed by google, they are junk names.

I always buy keyword domains and potential brand name domains. No, I don't make much on type in or traffic but do sell my share of good keyword domains.

Just my 2/10 of a dime.

I whole heartedly agree that there is a short sighted obscession with traffic, but a lot of it is driven by a need for cashflow. If cashflow is less critical then there are a lot of good brandable domains out there at more reasonable prices that will serve end users better than some developed domains with a lot of junk traffic.
