Los Angeles Angels Lose Fight for Angels.com Domain Name

The Los Angeles Angels Major League Baseball team has lost its fight for Angels.com. The organization filed for a UDRP in February claiming rights to the trademark “Angels” and that the current registrant was using it in bad faith. The Angels filed for arbitration after the owner of the domain, Lee Dongyeon of South Korea, offered to sell it for $300,000 to an unidentified agent. Dongyeon purchased the domain for roughly $25,000 in 2005.

Why do registars have domains available for anyone!? If it was trademarked, then they should have kept it for those with the tradmarks. It just pumps money in for lawyers.

I'm sure they haven't heard about the udrp process or wipo. I'm sure they don't care either. They just make the current owner an offer he can't refuse.

They must have had good reason.

I don't think so...they just figured it would be cheaper to get the name that way

IMO, they have a legit case. I'm sure they didn't think they would win, but $1500 + atty fees is a lot cheaper than what they would have paid to buy it out right.

You think they have a legit case? What about all of the other organizations in the world that use the term Angels? Like the Guardian Angels, would they have a case?

I agree, this is blatant reverse hijacking...

I'd like to hear why you think they have a legit case.

Re: Los Angeles Angels Lose Fight for Angels.com Domain Name

Our new Angels owner Arte Moreno has been plagued with controversy since he bought the team from Disney, what happened here comes as no surprise to OC residents, If Disney still owned this team and they wanted that domain, they would not stoop to this low a level to try to get it, they would of paid the asking price, I'm sure of it.

He buys the team for $180MM in 2003 and its now worth $368 million, over double what he paid for it, What the heck is a Billionaire like this doing trying to hijack a domain he has little rights too?, Negotiate a price and move on! If I was the Domain owner and won this case, I would TRIPLE my asking price!

BTW, he is not well liked here in Anaheim.
