Joe,
I am quite aware of what has happened this past week at Afternic. As it turns out, it seems as though iReit opted to list a huge chunk of their portfolio for sale. However, they made a crucial mistake of not pricing domain names out properly. Domain names that were substantially more valuable were sold at a fraction of their reseller prices.
I was aware on Friday of several sales, including Say.org and Gut.org (as well as one that I grabbed - Overwhelm.com) all at $500 each. I spent a good deal of Friday on the phone with BuyDomains trying to determine what teh situation was, and how best to go about buying domains.
I attempted to purchase several LLL.net, but I was too late. (Including Lad.net). They had already pulled most of the valuable domain names by then. Only a lucky few on Friday got their orders filled in time before the mistakes were corrected.
I had not been aware of the 5 LLLL.com's until this morning, when afternic listed them and I did a proper historical check. By my guesstimates iReit lost about 34-40k in potential revenue (easily) just on the LLL.com's and personally, I think the mistake is much closer to 100k in total. As more sales are posted (if they are posted) I will continue to document this critical error, but one of the largest domain holders.

Anyone got a copy of the domainers e-book laying around that iREIT could borrow? (j/k)
Then again, maybe this is a way to get publicity, as any publicity is good publicity I guess :S

I tried to buy a 2-word .com from them this week. I would have paid maybe $250 for it here. They had a $500 min so I went with that. They came back with min offer $5k so their prices are not good if you inquire. They were way above what Buydomains would have sold it for, at least for that one domain.

Oh dear
Some domainers just have very good luck.
I wonder who lucked out on those.
A mistake of that magnitude will certainly bring the punters out in droves. For Afternic its a gigantic win with respect to traffic. Unfortunately, it is also vindication for the low ball offers that are tabled day after day on premium names.
