Angry The new .ME

Can someone explain why certain names are not available, even during the landrush?

Supposedly, if many ppl order a domain, once the landrush ends, there will be am auction.

The, why aren't available names such as:

its.me
help.me
love.me

Answers anyone?

I don't think those names can be TMs taken during the sunrise...

I don't remember where I read this, and I'm too lazy to look it up (google for yourself).

They were holding back TM names that companies claimed, and they were going to hold back popular names to put into a general auction.

Since that whole extension is gonna be a whole bunch of domain hacks (ani.me, ti.me, ac.me, cri.me, upti.me), I find the reservations thing kinda stupid. But I'm sure the registrars will make a bunch of money off it. In the long run I think they're shooting themselves in the foot.

I liked the free .info boom idea alot better. More hype and that extension actually gets some use.

You guys havent learned yet? New extensions hold back premium terms and they'll auction them off at inflated prices...

I want to present Roc with the Award for teaching noobs the quickest way to lose money in this industry. Keep your money in your pockets folks, let the dust settle and see where .me lands in history.

I posted this elsewhere but I would like to see everyone boycott the initial auctions for all these new extensions. It's nothing more than a get rich quick scheme, for the registrar, that is. It's poor business IMHO.

Agreed and what I really don't get is that you get to tie up about $100 to be the sole applicant at each registrar BUT then you get to enter an auction for the name that you've already tied up funds for if there are multiple applicants. As a domainer, I would only be applying for seriously top keyword terms, as would most anyone else here who should choose to apply, especially given that this is likely to be a 4th. rate (at best) extension. That is about as logical as Pool or SnapNames asking for $60 on your card each time you choose to enter one of their auctions. .ME ain't for me but maybe I really do get it! (back to the quote.)

This is the same type of greedy mess that Pool once tried several years back when eveery applied for name had a 'pre auction' in the hopes that single bidder names would be bid up by the single bidder (against himself) for fear that they would miss out on their name. This is different but only by degrees. It is still greed at its best and the best way to reform it is not to partake especially since it is likely that you will miss little in the end and likely will simply save your money. You should note that Pool no longer has 'pre-auctions'!
