    News about domain name endings/extensions

    have you guys seen this?:

    http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9595_22-208742.html

I also saw it on CNN. If ICANN does this....lots of people will be screwed...dot come I think will be the only survivor. Though I don't see how this can make things "better". I think it will casue more confusion...all in the name of money, huh?

IMO, dot-org would also be a survivor what with it's various niches and non-commercial connotation and high regard by the public.

That's how much respect mainstream media has for the domain industry...they'll report on stuff when they feel like it.

But seriously, you didn't notice the article you were linking to was from mid-2008?

The reason it's coming around again is ICANN's comment period on implementing new gTLDs closes next Monday (13th April)

There are a lot of interested parties requesting changes because of their fears of new gTLDs. WIPO for example is looking to make changes to UDRP rules and introduce an ESM (Expedited Suspension Mechanism) which could allow them to take down any domains which do not respond to an email to the site owner within 10 - 15 days.

The Olympic Committee are threatening to hold ICANN responsible if they do not introduce new Trademark Protection processes.

Do these apply to only new gTLDs? Well ICANN has a mandate to ensure that all registries are treated equally unless there is very good reason therefore changes introduced because of new gTLDs may affect all existing registrants.

    You can see comments here

If you want submit your own the email address is 2gtld-guide@icann.org

There's a DNF thread here with a lot more information here
