Pool.com sue ICANN

"Pool.com, which re-registers dropped domain names on behalf of clients, has filed a lawsuit in an Ottawa court against ICANN, seeking to stop Verisign's implementation of the Wait List Service. (It also asks for US$34 million in damages.) The lawsuit argues that ICANN has violated its obligations under the Registrar Accreditation Agreements, by establishing a consensus policy in defiance of the Names Council and by failing to allow Independent Review Panel review. I won't speak to the suit's legal merits, but it's worth paying some attention to Pool.com; its VP is Len Bayles, domain-drop maven extraordinaire and former VP and CTO of SnapNames."

blah, what a non-sense... if wsl gets implemented they will be pushed out of business, so advertising is not the main concern in there.

I don't like Pool.com's bidding service but I like them for sueing ICANN.

Too much public awareness will backfire in my opinion but it is the only way Pool.com and others are going to have a fighting chance.

IHMO, Pool has no case whatsoever.

1. They knew full well that ICANN had already approved the WLS late last year and deliberately decided to start up this service just a month ago in a direct slap to ICANN's face.

2. They are asking for $26m in damages for lost business opportunity - what lost business opportunity when the writing was clearly on the wall? It will be clear to the judges that this is just another cheap attempt to exploit the situation.

they didn't have that kinds of PR to general user. only the domainer know him. don't think that we represent the internet population here.

and didn't you know that bad PR is better than no PR.

it's very bold of you to say that. for your record the owner of pool.com is the former ceo of snapnames. they're now trying to build another successful company and this is the cheapest way to get public attention.

did you learn marketing at all?
