Exclamation Vegas.com tries to take LasVegas.com for $12m

http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/st...517637350.html
Quote:
The company that operates the VEGAS.com Web site has asked a Clark County District Court judge to permit it to purchase the rights to use the rival lasvegas.com domain name.
Quote:
Court records say that in July Greenspun Media offered $12 million for the rights to the lasvegas.com name. Stephens was issued the "notice of intent" a day after the offer was made. On Aug. 19, Sherman Frederick, president of Stephens Media, sent a letter exercising the company's option rights. But on Aug. 24, VEGAS.com President Howard Lefkowitz responded that the Stephens bid did not match the terms of the VEGAS.com offer.
If this transfer happens, it will be the highest (public) domain name sale ever!

Re: Vegas.com tries to take LasVegas.com for $12m

Business.com, based on insider info, really sold for around $500,000 "cash" plus a number of conditional sales terms to be met before the rest of the $7 million would ever be paid. Most sales over a million dollars involve some sort of reserve or inflated stock trade. The fact that $12 million was mentioned in the court papers is exciting as it might be a true "cash" deal or at least structured payment.

The Business.com sale is also getting a bit dated, going back to the old .com boom, November 1999. Casino.com, nicely related, is much more recent from October 2003, going for a cool $5.5 million (though it also "included other assets").
