$200 for a Country where English is a minor language and not many people use internet is really a lot.
How much does the VN Registry charge you?

We offer bulk pricing to official resellers who register domains of 99+ per year.
While $200 may be steep compared to other ccTLD's, you can not purchase domains like auto.com or book.de anymore w/o going to the aftermarket. .VN still has numerous commerically viable domain names available.
If anyone would like to become a reseller send me your contact info. and we can go over the contract.

was it the 1st August or is it the 15th? The Registry told me that it is the 15th, so next tuesday. it starts on 15th August 7,30 in the morning Vietnamese time.
.vn Landrush started 1 hour ago.
Good names like jobs.vn & property.vn and lots others as well as other premium names were gone days ago when I checked. So what's this about the 15th Aug? Domains like hotels.vn are already live, .vn was cherry picked long before today.
its the landrush, before it was sunrise and the .vn was limited to 3rd level domains. I think 2nd level opened to locals and trademarks some weeks and month before, since today for all companies world wide.

Oh ok, the sunrise period folks pretty much registered the best domains, having checked through various domains I cant find any worth registering in the land rush, especially at the price. Btw, where can we find the whois for the 2nd level domains already registered?
you should be able to check all .vn WHOIS here - https://www.dot.vn/vnnic/vnnic/whois.jsp
Make Top $$$ with your Domain names
"The strong live off the weak...the clever live off the strong..."
Should be able to, but it doesn't work for me for any domain.
But premium domains like hotels.vn and jobs.vn point back to hotels.com.vn, which keeps coming around to the same company "powered by HI-TEK.com", the same company that "powers" the registry. There is no transparency here and with the whois not working, well....
See also business.vn redirects to hotels.com.vn. Seems the high end domains redirect back to the one place. I pity the Vietnamese people, the prices charged per domain registration pretty much rules them out from ever purchasing a second level domain.
hi-tec was for a long time the only one registrar outside vietnam. I think thats a reason why so much good names are registered to them. We got yesterday for clients names like downloads.vn and this morning I tried to get hello.vn, but there is a small delay in the whois database, it looks like that I was only few ours to late. for everyone that still want some .vn here is a discount code for EuroDNS:
DNFORUM_VNÂ*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*
its -20% on annual price, not valid for earlier registrations.
Good luck.
I understand what your saying Freddy, but there is a conflict of interest when you see what in effect is the registry controlling the best domains for themselves, it is a disgrace, a bigger one when you consider that the Vietnamese people don't stand a chance themselves. Yes, downloads.vn is a good domain. But I mean for lack of a better word, great domains, domains like business.vn, travel.vn, jobs.vn, hotels.vn., chat.vn and news.vn all going back to hi-tek(www.vn) is a farce and these are just the few names that I checked. The Vietnamese government were idiotic to let this happen. Btw, were the second level domains only supposed to be released yesterday.
If you could show me a registrar with names like that above I would be astounded in .de or .com, that were acquired before the secondary tld went live I would be astounded. Some registrars have gained great domains in the secondary market by purchasing them or through domains expiring that were already registered, but that is totally different.
Having full control over those names above in a country cctld of 86 million people is extraordinary in my opinion and to be controlled by the exclusive online registrar and the official authorized global marketing agent for Vietnam, well enough said. I am not saying it is illegal, just a disgrace on the Government and VnNic for letting it happen. But I am not going to respond any more, just pointing out what happened, every one else can decide for themselves, however, I think I might use your discount code to go register a few names at register.vn.
What is the status of my nic.vn!??! and my Hanoi.VN?!?! I have sent email and no response.
Its getting me mad.
